2016 Mac mini update and its likely release

Come this October it would have been 2 years since the release of the current Mac mini model, and so it’s looking highly likely that the 2016 model will be released.

Ok, so we know for some that this is wishful thinking, but we know how popular the 2016 Mac Mini update would be – especially when the line was not updated last year. Not only that, but with Apple expected to release macOS Sierra in early October, it would make perfect sense for them to also release a Mac mini upgrade in the same month to get the best from the new desktop operating system.

So let’s say that we will see Apple announce a new Mac mini during their October event, what are we likely to expect in terms of specs? Well, the current model is still decent in terms of its performance, but there have been a few enhancements since late 2014, and so there is certainly a lot to look forward to.

We often get the impression that Apple forgets that its mini desktop even exists, although they should really give this small device more of a chance because it serves as the perfect alternative for some people. The thing is they could still have a decent monitor, but are just eager to upgrade the desktop, and with a starting price of £399 in the UK, it truly is a great option.

Mac mini 2016 update

One possible improvement for the Mac mini would be to a Skylake processor, although we know its successor, Kaby Lake is set to be released later this year, so maybe the mini or even a new iMac could be getting this CPU instead. Having said that, Apple could still opt for the popular Broadwell chip, which would still be an improvement over the current model.

In terms of RAM, we suspect that Apple will go from 4GB as standard to 8GB, just as they did with the MacBook Air earlier this year. We would also like to see a shift from a standard hard drive to a flash drive, as this would help to improve the overall performance of the Mac mini.

However, the biggest change that we would like to see is an all-new Mac mini design for 2016, as we are sure Apple could come up with something thinner and smaller, while still improving the innards.

While all this is pie in the sky at the moment, it does look very promising that Apple will update its smaller desktop in October, but what is it you would like to see improved?
