The 2015 Ford F-150 was a first in so many ways when it was released, such as its all-aluminum body, and now there’s another to add to the list for the 2016 version, and that’s the new compressed natural gas and propane options. Both of these are clean burning, and have been prepared in the factory with hardened valves, valve seats, pistons and piston rings, all of which are needed for running these different fuel option.
Ford say these are exciting times for them, and they would be right, as it is certainly great to give their customers the choice of going for an alternative fuel.
In order to have your 2016 Ford F-150 run on either CNG or propane you will have to go for the 5.0-liter V8 engine, although the conversion will allow for a range of around 750 miles on combined tanks of gasoline and CNG.
As for price, the prep work for the CNG/LPG engine will cost $315. The customer will then need to choose a Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier for the supply of the fuel tanks, unique fuel injectors and fuel lines, which could cost $6,000 to $9,500, as this depends on the capacity of the fuel tank.
It’s not just the 2016 F-150 that will offer these different fuel options, as there is also the F-250, F-350, F-550, F-650, F-750, F-53, F-59, Transit van and the E-Series. However, for fuel details on the exact engines for these model, then please visit Ford Press.
