If you woke up like a few of the Product Reviews team today, then waiting for the Apple Store to return for your Watch order would have been top of the list. For some it meant a simple click to order, but for others the Apple Watch delay in shipping and high price for better straps seemed ridiculous.
We put a few different Apple Watch models in our basket to take a look at shipping times and while we knew a delay was possible, it’s clear Apple isn’t ready to deliver all models of Apple Watch until June at the earliest. The Apple Watch Sport in 42mm and with a Space Grey Aluminium Case has a shipping time of June, which is for orders placed right after the 8:01am pre-order start time.
You can see the Black Sports Apple Watch in a basket above along with the 42mm Stainless Steel Case with Link Bracelet. The latter option is something one of our team wanted, although they were thinking this model would cost slightly more than the sports version. In fact, the Apple Watch prices vary a lot and depend largely on the type of strap you choose.
Price of Apple Watch straps will be high – The two items in the above basket range in price from £339 to £859 in the UK, also the cheapest 42mm Apple Watch model starts at £479 while the sports version starts at £339. Seeing the prices jump up to £949 for the range below Edition is shocking, but also very revealing for expected strap prices.
Could we be looking at certain Apple Watch straps costing over £400? This seems to be the price difference with only the strap changing in certain ranges, and we haven’t even included the very high priced Edition models. It looks like many models won’t ship to June and strap prices will cost hundreds.
