While Sony is making PS Vita users cry this week, they are making PS4 and PS3 gamers very happy indeed at the same time. The company has just announced that finally, Spotify is coming to PS4 and PS3, with the Spotify PS4 release date scheduled for Spring 2015.
This is a game changer for all PlayStation users for a number of reasons. Not only does it look like Sony has pulled off an exclusive deal which means Xbox won’t get Spotify, but there is going to be a free version as well.
In other words, Spotify on PS4 will be free with ads – just the same as the desktop experience which isn’t too obtrusive anyway. Of course, you will be able to create playlists just as you would with Spotify on your computer, but there will still be the option of Spotify Premium on PS4 if you want the full experience, ad-free.
One of the most exciting factors of this deal for us, is the fact that you will be able to use Spotify on PS4 in the background. Just take that in for a second, playing almost any track on your favorite game – Lionel Ritchie Hello, on Advanced Warfare Exo zombies, for example.
Spotify is coming to PS3 and PS4 this Spring. There isn’t a set date announced yet, but you can sign up on Spotify’s website, to be the first to know when this information is live.
Considering that Music Unlimited, a paid-for service is making way for Spotify which will offer a free version, we don’t see this as anything other than a game changer.
A total of 41 countries will be supported, meaning that the majority of PS4 and PS3 gamers will be able to enjoy this. March 29, 2015 is the date when Music Unlimited will cease operation and will then be transformed into Spotify with PlayStation Music this Spring.
How amazing is this news guys and girls? As we let the dust settle on this, give us your ‘dream’ song which you can’t wait to play on a particular game.
Do you agree that this is a game changer for the PS4 as an entertainment hub?
