Sony has just launched a brand new free PS4 theme onto the PlayStation Store. Unfortunately though and not for the first time, it is locked to US gamers only meaning that you can’t get it if you live outside of the US – by normal means anyway.
PS Now is available to US and Canada residents at the moment, but as far as we’re aware, Canadian PS4 users cannot even get this theme. Luckily though there is a way to enjoy it with a few tips and tricks, so we can show you exactly how to get the PS Now PS4 theme outside of the US.
We have discovered that there is still a way to get the PS Now theme on any other region PSN account – whether that be a UK account, or even an Asian one.
To do this, you simply need to first download the PS Now theme on your US PSN account – most of you may already have this from the PS3 since Sony were doing some irritating shenanigans where PS Store content differed between the different regions.
Once you have the theme downloaded, head back to your main primary account. You will still see that the theme has a padlock icon by it, meaning that at the moment it is only viewable when logged into the US PSN account.
To bypass this, you need to go back to the US account, then perform the following steps: Go to settings> PSN> Activate as your Primary PS4. Once you have clicked yes, then scroll down and select ‘Restore Licences’.
Once these steps are complete, you can then head back into your main PSN account and you should see that the padlock has disappeared, meaning that you can use it with no problem.
Don’t worry about activating multiple regions as your primary console, as one console can have as many primary PSN accounts as you like, it’s only when you have multiple consoles in the house that it may cause a problem.
This handy little trick will also work for country specific apps, such as BBC Sport in the UK which isn’t available on the Asia PSN store. We also saw that the UK store has the Hobbit PS4 theme too which is exclusive to the Europe store, but can be transferred between regions using the same process.
Try this out now with the free PlayStation Now PS4 theme if you live outside of the US. It’s actually a great dynamic theme which comes with a nice soundtrack too which will play in the background and won’t stop when you head into any PS4 sub menus.
Let us know how you get on and if our guide helped you.
