Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi updates precautionary recall

Honda has increased its precautionary recall due to faulty Takata airbags yet again, even though they did the same just two days ago. However, they are not alone, as fellow Japanese automakers, Nissan and Mitsubishi has also announced recalls, with all three totaling around 550,000 vehicles.

The total number of recalls related to these airbags stands at around 20 million dating back to 2008. Honda has issued the biggest number with this latest recall, with around 400,000 vehicles, with Nissan recalling an estimated 152,000 and Mitsubishi just 304 units.

Honda, Nissan and Mitsubishi airbag update

The new Honda airbag recall is worldwide and consists of the Fit, Civic hybrid that were produced in 2003, the Stream minivan amongst others. The carmaker is now up to around 13.4 million recalls to date, and we suspect that number will keep climbing for a while yet.

Nissan has not detailed what models will be added to this expanded recall, although we do know a majority of them are for Japan, with a smaller percentage of the recalls in Europe.

As for Mitsubishi, Reuters reports there are only 304 Lancer sedans being recalled, all of which are in Japan.
