No Man’s Sky Xbox One release date sadness

By Alan Ng - Dec 7, 2014

One of the best reveals of Sony’s PlayStation Experience this weekend, was a brand new No Man’s Sky PS4 trailer. Unfortunately though, it looks like at this point there isn’t a No Man’s Sky Xbox One release date in sight.

The procedurally generated open universe game is due out in 2015, but so far there has been complete silence regarding an Xbox One version. We know the game is coming out on PC, but there has been no talk on whether Microsoft is bringing it to Xbox One.

After a weekend in which we’ve seen Street Fighter V as a PS4 console exclusive, this isn’t going to be good reading for Xbox One readers.

The game is looking absolutely stunning and could already been one of the early contenders for one of the best games of 2015. At PlayStation Experience, we saw another new trailer for the game and confirmation that 65daysofstatic will be composing the entire soundtrack to No Man’s Sky.

Is this game going to be a timed-exclusive and will still appear on Xbox One in 2016, or is it going to be completely exclusive to PS4? We can already see that many of you are asking the same question on Twitter and so far there has been no response from Microsoft regarding this.

Either way, things are looking extremely promising for Sony in 2015. The Order 1886, Street Fighter V and now No Man’s Sky all on the way.

As an Xbox One owner reading this, give us your thoughts. Is this one game which you would love to play on Xbox One? We’ll update you if we hear any further information regarding this.

I wonder….will this be $60 like a regular retail game or $15 like every other indie game? Also is this game digital distribution only cause they’ll piss me off. I want retail copies.

  • mohammed sarker

Don’t know why but something tells me this game will either
    A) Be exclusive to PS4 and PC forever
    B) Come to XB1 1 year later
I have a feeling it’s gonna be A since sony has given more love to indies and Hello games and Sony have some history together.

  • mohammed sarker

Personally, I’m cool with no man”s sky being timed exclusive since Sony gave the indies support before microsoft did and this isn’t a previously third party franchise like cough*Tomb raider 2*

    • mohammed sarker

now that I think of it that street fighter 5 deal is also kinda bs. whatever, only fighting game i want is mortal kombat and MAYBE DBZ xenoverse.

  • Fst-timer

Generally. PlayStation ‘exclusives’ are such because of the support and resources they offer. With all there debt (sony in general) they can’t/won’t buy exclusivity a la Microsoft. You can’t expect them to support a project and be fine about it being used to develop for a rival. Let’s be honest. Microsoft had there chance but chose not to ‘gamble’. Halo anyone?

  • Xethir

meh I want to play this game but sony being apparently so insecure about their own future has to throw the timed exclusive bs on most of the games coming out. I will just get it for PC when it is out, i owned a PS3 will not buy a PS4 due to all the crap sony has been pulling.

  • The monolith is an xbox

This game will be as great as Spore…people still play that, don’t they?

    • mohammed sarker

      No Man’s Sky>Spore

  • jlcurtis

Sony loves to toss around the word exclusive, even when it’s only timed (Destiny content)
The fact that they aren’t even useing the word at all does look promising for Xbox.
If not, I’ve been looking for a reason to build a better pc

  • LinkandTingle

Its probably just on PS4 for now, and in a few years they’ll announce an Xbox One version after everybody’s bought a PS4 to get it xD

  • chris s

No confirmation of PS4 exclusive yet, looks like they just get to show it off. Maybe a timed exclusive deal, but they never used the word “exclusively on…” anywhere in this video. Looks nice though.

  • Cody

Be Really Disappointed If It doesn’t Come Out One Xbox. I Was Thinking That Destiny Would Be more Like This. Bungie Really Set The Bar Low

  • Mike Reynolds

I have both systems, and this game is literally the only reason i haven’t sold my PlayStation 4 yet.

The Xbox one was the clear winner in games/features/content in 2014, but Sony finally may have a killer app on their hands in 2015.

    It’ll be interesting.

    • Josh101

Shareplay took the cake for any feature ever in my opinion. Every other feature is 2nd rate compared to that revolutionary feature. Also, in my opinion.

  • Josh101

This game is going to be AMAZING. I can’t wait to play it. 😀

  • Brian

can care less about that indie game….didn’t buy a console for indies

    • mohammed sarker

      dude, really?

      • brian

lol, yes really….if you did, then good luck!

  • Omar

The title of the article says it all. You’re an ass.

  • kevin mole

this could be the best game ever made or a crappy tech demo, it will be interesting to see what it is like sean from hello games does not give much away ever about this game ,I am very excited about though if it is brilliant like I think it will be then everyone will want a ps4 to play it.

  • SuicideNinja

    Nope, don’t care.

  • Matt

It’s a timed exclusive, just like RotTR. How games are being released infested with bugs, metaphorically speaking, the wait could be a good thing for Xbox owns and vice versa for PS owners with RotTR.

  • David

It’ll come to Xbox one. As an indie developer, hello games won’t be able to turn down microsofts money. It’ll probably come out a couple months after the ps4 version. Maybe a year.

    • freekface

Of course it will, I wouldn’t bother with this site anymore it’s all very amateurish ,

      • David

A lot of sites seem to think it won’t show up on Xbox though. I think it’s pretty funny.

  • freekface

“this isn’t going to be good reading for Xbox One readers”

Ok it seems this site is clearly either run by Sony fanboy’s or is connected to Sony in some way. Look at those words !! .

So where is the “ARE SONY MONEY HATTING AGAIN AS THEY HAVE JUST DONE WITH STREETFIGHTER” Type headline that I know you would have done if this was MS and Xbox One news.

    • Josh101

Awhh, don’t be mad. 95% of Microsoft’s exclusive lineup are money-hatted from 3rd party developers. Minecraft, Tomb Raider, Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive and quite a few others. If it weren’t for their money-hatting they would only have, Gears of war, Halo, Killer Instinct and Forza.. Meanwhile, Sony, without 3rd party, would still have Killzone, Little Big Planet, Wipeout, Gran Turismo, Toukiden, Soul Sacrifice, Freedom Wars, Gravity Rush, Resistance, Sly Cooper, God of War, Uncharted, Ratchet n Clank etc. As well as smaller titles like Sound Shapes and Tearaway. Upcoming 1st party titles like Bloodborne, The Order: 1886 and Deep Down. Nintendo has a crap ton of games too.

      • Minecraft is not exclusive to Xbox One. Microsoft bought this to grow it, not kill the franchise.

Tomb Raider is a time exclusive, much like what No Man’s Sky will be in due time.

The truth is that quality exclusives are what matters, and Sony is not willing to pay the money to the studio to prevent an indie title from going multiplatform. That could be a check as high as $1,000,000, whereas a NDA on an Xbox One release and time exclusivity might only cost $100,000.

I am interested in Uncharted with is a true exclusive to PS4, but probably won’t buy the system until after the reviews start coming in.

        • Josh101

“Minecraft is not exclusive to Xbox One. Microsoft bought this to grow it, not kill the franchise.”

You should be sure the next iteration will be exclusive to Microsoft. They didn’t spend that kind of money not to.

The major point is, Microsoft simply money-hats a large portion of their “1st party titles.” They don’t create their own. Sony and Nintendo launch new franchises EVERY console generation. Microsoft simply buys them when they prove to be popular.

        • monkeymo

There’s nothing entirely wrong with that business tactic, its less high risk but it costs more money as you have to immensely over pay to own the exclusivity rights.

        • mohammed sarker

          Banjo and cazooie. poor Rare.

      • Josh101

Also I’m gay and love blowing men for video game money.

        • Josh101

Meh, you’re boring. Couldn’t you have said something original? Also, it kind of defeats the point when my name can be clicked on and you are a guest troll account. I hate stupidity, willful ignorance is the worst trait a human can possess. Dumba*s………

    • mohammed sarker

Not necessarily. this website thinks that it won’t come to XB1 and that WOULD be a sad read for xb players. Don’t you think you jumped the gun a bit?
