GTA Online down today with files required error

By Alan Ng - Dec 3, 2014

It looks like a lot of you are having problems with the GTA Online servers not working today. We’ve just checked our own system and can see that at the time of writing, GTA V Online is down today on December 3 or December 4 depending where you live.

As far as we’re aware, there is no scheduled GTA Online maintenance from Rockstar. We’ve also had a look at Rockstar’s GTA V server status page and can confirm that there doesn’t appear to be any problems according to Rockstar’s data.

However, we are definitely having problems. For us, we are seeing a constant GTA Online files required error with the full message actually saying something like the “files required to play gta online could not be downloaded from the Rockstar game service”.

Literally just minutes ago though, we’re also getting complaints from some of you who have told us that you are seeing another GTA Online server error with a message saying “The Rockstar game services are unavailable right now. Please return to Grand Theft Auto V and try again later.”

Rockstar has yet to issue an update on the Rockstar Support GTA V Twitter page, so we are assuming that they are not aware of the problem since their status page reads all fine.

Let us know if GTA V is down for you at the moment. Are the GTA Online servers offline for you right now, or have you managed to get back in, in your area?

  • Rockstar are masters at not acknowledging problems, or blaming them on you. Their standard line seems to be, “…Check your NAT settings.” Oh, you mean the same NAT settings that were working fine 10 minutes ago?

I also found that if you persist in trying to get an answer from them, they simply remove your access to the support forums.
