F1 2014 Gameplay emulates sound, graphics questionable

By Peter Chubb - Aug 13, 2014

Codemasters pretty much shocked the gaming community when they announced that the F1 2014 video game would not be coming to the PS4 and Xbox One, as they were exclusive to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC instead. What we do find strange is how the game will not be released until almost the end of the season, but a new gameplay video has been released to help whet our appetites.

The new F1 2014 gameplay video shows us that Codemasters has done a great job at reproducing the sound of the new turbo engines, which you can hear spooling up, although some fans have already taken to YouTube to complain about the downshifts, saying they seem a little off.

Personally, the sound is not that bad, although it does not give you that thrill of the high-pitched noise of the 2.4-liter V8 engines from last year. I do find it funny how naive some people are on YouTube, as one reader said the sound of that Ferrari coming out of the corners are a bit high-pitched, and that it could be because of the Traction Control. The issue here is that TC was banned a few years ago now.

If I were to make a guess it would be that the wheels are being spun just a little too much as the car struggles to gain traction out of the corner because of the amount of torque these new engines have, which is also to do with the electric motor – even the great Alonso often struggles to keep that amount of torque under control.

Going back to the gameplay video, it is of a hot lap of Bahrain in a Ferrari, which isn’t really the best F1 car to choose when marketing a new game, Codemasters should have gone for the Silver Arrow instead, as the Mercedes is the best car on the grid.

The F1 2014 video game graphics are very questionable though because there doesn’t seem to be any improvement over last year. Having said that, we might be expecting too much seeing as though we are now used to the impressive graphics of the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One.

The writer is being a bit silly. Yes TC was banned a few years ago but in Codies games you have the option of switching it on – therefore the hot lap could have been done with TC engaged.
