Earlier on this week we spoke about the highly anticipated release for the Xiaomi Mi4, a Chinese branded Android phone that has become a hot product among consumers – especially in India. The handset is now available to buy in China and as we look forward to a release in other markets soon, we can bring you some early Xiaomi Mi4 review details thanks to those that have already managed to get hold of one.
So far, the Xiaomi series has been restricted to official releases in Asia only, but those eagle-eyed consumers in the US and UK can import if they really want to get hold of one badly.
It’s been dubbed an ‘iPhone clone’ by many onlookers, while Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun has also been labelled as a ‘Steve Jobs knockoff’ – Do a Google search for “Xiaomi CEO” and see what the first result is for yourself.
iPhone similarities or not though, there’s no denying that the Xiaomi Mi4 has star appeal and for an asking price of around $320, it packs some stunning hardware specs.
There’s a 5-inch 1080p with a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM on top for starters. Then there’s a 3080mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera and a whopping 8MP camera on the front – does that mean it’s better than Microsoft’s 5MP ‘Selfie Phone’ then?
Android Kitkat is running in combination with Xiaomi’s custom UI which is very close to a vanilla experience. Simply put, it’s going to be a very popular phone indeed this coming Holiday season for those that may want a cheaper alternative to the iPhone 6.
