BBM for Windows Phone released with limitations

By Peter Chubb - Jul 11, 2014

It’s been a long time coming but it is finally here, well sort of. We can only be talking about BBM for Windows Phone, as it has been released. However, this app does come with limitations, one of which is that it is merely in beta form and so is not available to the masses just yet.

If you would like to download BBM for Windows Phone, then all you have to do is sign-up to gain limited access to the beta service. If you do not feel like giving this early version a go seeing as though it could be thwart with issues, then the public release is only a few weeks away.

As for the other limitations we mentioned, you will not get Voice Channels and Glympse location sharing right away, although this could make it in the public release version. However, you still get the usual suspects, such as feeds, contacts, group and individual chats, all of which comes with a new Windows Phone UI. What you will find nice about this app is how it is not a port, but a completely new build just for WP smartphones.

BlackBerry has not announced what devices are supported or if it is specific to any one version of Windows Phone, but no doubt once you sign-up and register your information all that will become clear to you.

For those who have downloaded the beta version of BlackBerry Messenger for Windows Phone, we would love to know your thoughts.

I remember when it was released for iOS and android and loads of people went nuts to get it… It was really cool for about 5minutes, now no one uses it. Seems RIM are just pouring money down the drain, they should sell BBM’s infrastructure to Microsoft to be windows phone messenger or to viber to increase their back end support and ability to use both pin and phone number – rim could cash in before folding / doing something else and bbm’s legacy would continue.right now they are just running everything into the ground.
