OS X 10.10 issues with PhotoShop in preview 3

By Peter Chubb - Jul 8, 2014

OS X 10.10 Yosemite developer preview 3 was released yesterday and with it brought a few new fixes, but there are still a few problems, one of which is with PhotoShop. You are able to load an image just fine, but when it comes to editing it with a pencil or brush, the program crashes.

The moment you select one of these two tools PhotoShop in preview 3 crashes or hangs, which means you have to force quit in order to get the software working once again.

This was not an issue before, and so has only appeared since preview 3 for some users. We checked with our own developer and confirmed that this is indeed an issue for him as well, and we would like to point out that it occurred using the new, thinner iMac, and so could just be an issue with this model.

If you have experienced this issue please share this with us, and if not we have to wonder just what is causing the crash. Having said that, the blame has to rest with the OS X Yosemite preview 3, seeing as all was well before the update yesterday.

We will provide you with the full preview 3 release notes once they have become available, so for now we ask that you play around with the update and see what you can unearth.

I am having the same issue, with CS5 Photoshop. Any time I use the Pencil or Brush tool it crashes. I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) and a iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) that both have same exact issue. It allows me to paint one pixel then immediately hangs. No matter what size canvas I am working with.
