We know that American muscle cars have always been a little over the top in terms of power because they seem to have far more than needed. However, there always seems to be an insatiable need to get even more power and are not that surprised of the latest Dodge Challenger Hellcat horsepower figure of 707.
The 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat power output is that much that a system has been put in place to try and contain that amount of power only to those the car manufacturer believe are capable of handling it.
We don’t mean they will look at someone and only offer a toned down version. What they will do as an extra safety measure is to give the owner two key fobs, one will be used to only supply 500 horses, while the other will unleash all of them.
This means you can give the black key fob to someone you do not trust with all that power, while the red one can be saved just for yourself. While this is a good idea, we know many of your friends will hound you until you give in and let them use the red key fob and see just how fast the 2015 Hellcat really is.
Personally, we believe that Chrysler should take a more high-tech approach like Nissan do with the GT-R. Instead of using something as basic as a key fob to offer the desired power rating, Nissan uses GPS so it knows when the GT-R is on a track and then allows you to use the vehicle to its true potential. Having said that, as far as we know this was only a Japanese only feature, but a far better one.
