Last week, we told you that Google may be making a surprise decision to cancel a new Nexus 10 2014 tablet, in favor of opting to release a Nexus 8.9 tablet instead. Nothing is certain yet of course, but since then we’ve heard even more evidence to suggest that this may be a done deal.
While consumers still appear to be holding on to having a new Nexus 10 in 2014, it is looking like a near 9-inch tablet may arrive first.
The latest Nexus 8.9 rumors to share is that it could be a tablet that Google will offer with a lovely 2K resolution display. Remember that the Nexus 7 2013 model has a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, but if whispers are real then Google could offer something in the region of 2560×1600 or even higher – the same resolution that Samsung currently offers with the Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4.
Furthermore, those leak ‘specialists’ over at Digitimes chime in with some even more juicy information suggesting that the Nexus 8.9 announcement date could be in June 2014 at Google I/O, with a Nexus 8.9 release date to happen sometime during Q3.
It goes without saying that a new Nexus tablet with a 2K display would be very well received from consumers. The big question though is the price we feel and whether these luxurious new hardware specs would mean a massive price hike.
The Nexus 7 is a smash hit and has been for many months but this is arguably down to Google’s fantastic pricing, as you can pick up the latest Nexus 7 for just $230. Thinking about a 2K display tells us that this potential Nexus 8.9 could be over $299, so would you be willing to pay for the added luxury?
Google are obviously planning an attack this Summer, so let us know your thoughts on the fact that we are now looking at a Nexus 8.9 tablet, rather than a Nexus 10. Are you willing to put your money down for an order straight away, especially if it is built by HTC as rumors suggest?
