Sony’s next PS4 update will bring a new DualShock 4 light bar option, which will allow players to dim it down and save battery life. The light bar is one of the most noticeable features added to the PS4 controller, however it negatively impacts the DualShock 4’s power.
The PS4 filmware update will reportedly attend to dimming the controllers blue light bar, thus giving the option to reserve battery life. Sony PlayStation Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida revealed these update plans but did not confirm whether this would come included in a general PS4 update or as a Dualshock 4 specific fix.
When the PS4 controller is turned on the light bar will also have to be turned on in some capacity, it may be dimmed right down but not completely turned off. Whilst this is not a major update feature on the top of some gamer’s priority lists, it is a useful option made available to players if they want it. There has in fact been a petition staged, demanding Sony add the option to turn off the light bar permanently in a filmware update.
We are aware that Sony’s PS4 1.63 update is weeks away and there will be a variety of new features and fixes implemented when it rolls out. It is possible that this light bar dim option will be included but for now we will have to wait and see what Sony delivers us.
Will you be dimming your DualShock 4 light bar to save the controller’s battery life?
