2014 MacBook Air and Pro sole redesign feedback

With the 2013 MacBook Air well into its lifecycle and the MacBook Pro refresh still new, it doesn’t mean people will not look ahead to see what Apple has planned for next year. However, there are still fans out there that believe Apple will not renew both and release just one model instead, which could be an amalgamation of the two.

This rumor has been doing the rounds for a couple of years now and as such we have dismissed it, but now that the rumors of a cheaper iPhone came to fruition this year, it makes us wonder if Apple would rethink its 2014 MacBook Air and Pro upgrades?

When the MacBook Air was first released its gap to the MacBook Pro was significant, but as time has gone on that gap has reduced. The Air is still thin, but the Pro has also got a lot thinner.

We wonder if there is still a need for the MacBook Air, seeing as though the Pro is much thinner, and no doubt will get even thinner. However, it might be much harder for the Air to get even thinner, as it will look more like the rumored 12-inch iPad.

However, even though there is a lot of demand for just one MacBook, albeit different screen sizes, you have to remember that what appeals to many people is having something much lighter than the other. There is also the fact that the smaller MacBook Air is positioned nicely as an entry-level Mac, something the Pro is not.

Some of our readers in the past have said, “Apple meeds to clean and simplify its product offerings next year.” Another reader said that they assumed “Apple was getting rid of the 11-inch and 13-inch Air and replacing it with a 12-inch model.” There has also been some feedback as to a larger MacBook Pro, as it is clear some people want to see return of the 17-inch model.

Even though rumors of a unified MacBook have intensified, do you think it is ever likely to happen?
