2014 Corvette Stingray vs. 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS horsepower

General Motors has finally made the 2014 Corvette Stingray engine specs official, and the leaked rumor suggesting the LT1 6.2-liter V8 could produce 460 horsepower was true. However, this is only for the performance exhaust, as the standard version will only crank out 455 horsepower.

The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS will come with the same engine powering the upcoming C7, although we’re not sure if they will produce the same power output. This is because there has always been a slight variance in horsepower between the Corvette and the Camaro in the past, so you would presume that this would be the case with the upcoming versions of both Chevy’s.

However, this might not be the case and we could see horsepower parity between the two models, although we expect the power-to-weight ratio to be far greater on the C7, as it will be a lighter model, which is also the reason why the 2014 Chevy Corvette Stingray could offer more horsepower per ton.

Going back to that new LT1 6.2-liter V8 engine, it is not only more powerful than the previous version, it’s 25 percent more fuel-efficient, which is thanks to variable valve timing and direct injection. There’s also several other technological advancements, such as a four-into-one exhaust manifolds, oil system that sprays oil onto the pistons and even a newly designed intake manifold.

We cannot wait to see the ZR1 version of this model, as it is expected to produce around 700 horsepower. There are still those out there who believe General Motors could have squeezed more out of this engine, as it’s a rule of thumb to achieve 100 horsepower per liter. However, that’s not right, as other factors have to be taken into consideration, such as fuel-efficiency.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is more powerful than the outgoing version, so is an improvement, but would you have liked to have seen more performance?
