Xbox One features upgrade with Kinect QR scanner

By Alan Ng - Nov 7, 2013

One of the most discussed features of the Xbox One console is the new Kinect camera. It’s also the reason why the console is $100 more expensive than the PS4. With this in mind, consumers are eager to know what Kinect can do and this week Microsoft has unveiled one new feature of Kinect that may start to win over some doubters.

That feature is a handy little QR scanner, which could save you a great deal of time when entering Xbox Live vouchers or any other QR-based incentives that you have picked up on your travels. Microsoft’s Major Nelson has specifically highlighted this new ability of the console, by providing a Vine message that we have included below.

You’ll see that it takes merely seconds for the Kinect camera to register the code and it could turn out to be one of the most useful features of the console. It’s obviously not a $100 feature, but it’s a very nice touch and we’ve already seen the likes of Amazon give their support behind the feature.

In a post on their Facebook page, they have conceded that Xbox One’s new QR code scanner is ‘flippin awesome’. The comments are littered however, with those that disagree and would still prefer a PS4 console that is $100 cheaper.

Still though, you can’t please everyone. Check out the feature above and let us know what you think about it – will you have a heavy usage for QR codes on your Xbox One console or not?

Everything is mostly done online over Xbox live or amazon so if you don’t buy it at the store then how is it gonna help you, coming from someone that is buying an Xbox One i wont be to impressed with what the Kinect 2 can do till i get my hands on it on day one and start seeing some real game interaction with most of the launch games like Battlefield 4, COD Ghosts, Assassins Creed 4 and others then later next year when Titan Fall and Destiny release i would love to see it do something there. I hope that its not a big let down as a lot of other people have already thought of switching like myself for the resolution being only 720P on most of the games this will only be another reason for people not to get the Xbox one. If the Kinect 2 doesn’t meet our expectations and i don’t care if it is the best online gaming console for multi-player with all the servers in the world if you cant produce what gamers want they wont buy your product and then I’ll be forced to rather trade in my machine to be able to play with friends that have all switched or play with very few people that will still have the Xbox One Console so i hope they don’t let us down any more then they already have.
