Sony Xperia Z1, Z Ultra Android 4.4 release date update

By Peter Chubb - Nov 2, 2013

With the release of the Nexus 5 and with it Android 4.4 KitKat the rumors have now started as to what smartphones and tablets will get the latest version of Android next. The smart money would be to say the likes of the Nexus 4, 7 and 10, but this might not be the case.

We already know that the HTC One is to get Android 4.4 KitKat, as well as Motorola devices, such as the Moto X, although they have yet to offer a specific release date.

Sony Xperia owners have been asking when they are likely to see the latest version of Android, and it does seem as though there are plans to update the Sony Xperia Z1, Z Ultra and other Xperia devices, although they have not finalized which ones. Having said that, Android Community makes a point that some of these handsets have not even been updated to 4.3 yet.

It was not that long ago when Sony never used to offer software updates as quick as its rivals, but with the introduction of some of the newer models all that has changed. The reason we say this is because it is very likely that some of the Xperia range will skip Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and jump to 4.4 KitKat instead.

What Sony Xperia devices do you think will get 4.4 first, and do you think it is a good idea to skip 4.3?

I can’t help but laugh these manufacturers are still producing and releasing 4 1 or 4 2 handsets when every new device should come out the box with nothing less than 4.3. Samsung rules period.

Are you capable of reading? Because nowhere in the entire article did it say anything about new devices being released with somewhat older versions of Android. The title alone should clue in to that very obvious fact. These are existing devices with the possibility of being updated. What an idiot.

how about you learn some f***ing manors dude… his comment was justified, the Z1 is less than 2 months old and came with 4.2 and that’s crazy considering 4.3 has been out so long, was it completely necessary to speak to the dude like dirt on your shoe? or are you just a d*** by nature?.

Android 4.3 has been out since late July. That’s only 3.5 months. So you’re saying Sony, a company that had access to Android 4.3 for all of 2 months before even the announcement of the Z1 should/could have released it with 4.3? I can tell you right now, it takes longer than 2 months to get a new version of Android up and running the way a manufacturer would like, especially if said manufacturer is throwing its own tweaks/system modifications on top of it all.
Also, it’s spelled “manners”. Manors are generally big, stately buildings that rich people live in.

Still if you happen to learn of some free manors give me one ;).

And to the people saying that 4.3 has been out long… Go and read up on XDA. Quite a nr of roms will skip 4.3 cause they never got it running before the release of 4.4. I’m on the Z ultra for example and there is yet to be any custom rom beyond 4.2.2 as far as i know.

I think they should skip the software update to Android 4.3. I’m so pissed off at Motorola for not updating my Motorola Atrix HD since last December. I was hoping for my phone to have Android 4.2 or 4.3 by now. I thought Motorola would have changed by now. They didn’t even bother about updating the Atrix HD since I got Android 4.1 for it.
