NBA 2K14 PS4 Vs PS3 Lebron James looks crazy

By Alan Ng - Oct 15, 2013

The moment has arrived for all basketball fans. NBA 2K14 is coming soon to next-gen consoles and as a result, we recently saw a image of Lebron James captured for the first time on PS4 hardware. Now, we can bring you a comparison, showing the Miami Heat star’s model on NBA 2K14 PS4 vs PS3 just to show you the huge differences in quality.

There really is a massive difference as well. You are going to be amazed with the depth of quality that Visual Concepts has managed to produce for the next-gen version of the game, which is due out as a launch title on both the Xbox One and PS4.

Let’s get straight to it though. The image you see above is the first look at how Lebron James’ character model will look like on the PS4. The image was officially shared from the NBA 2K Facebook page and you can check out a high-resolution copy of the image here.

Now, below we can give you an idea of how the next-gen version of Lebron looks like, when compared to how ‘King James‘ will look like on current-gen hardware. The difference is fairly obvious and speaks for itself – note that Lebron is actually holding the basketball on next-gen compared to current-gen where it is magically floating in thin air.

The PS4 version of Lebron looks incredible!

The facial differences are pretty amazing too. 2K and the developers have done a fantastic job getting such a realistic looking James on next-gen, it almost looks hyper-realistic like this wonderful computer-generated imagining of a certain Morgan Freeman.

If this is the level of quality that we can expect to see on most player models on the PS4 version of NBA 2K14, then consider us very excited indeed. Take a good look at the PS4 Vs PS3 shot here and then let us know your thoughts on the quality.

Ud have to be mentally insane or very poor to buy this on a PSpoor when it comes out on Xbox One..

  • Andre Moore

I have to see the game moving. That can be a cut scene or intro to the game for all we know.

    • merri

The original image is at 6K. It’s downsampled.

    • Vinícius Manhães Andrade

it’s not cutscene, it’s gameplay. so, think about it, the fact that it made you think it’s not gameplay means it’s atually that awesome.

  • Jin

My 780 will take a dump on this thread.

  • Synthetic Construct

Who is that dude on the left?

  • desssa

PS4 Le Bron ALMOST PC quality on medium quality! Face the truth! You are shitting pants for consoles that are middle-range PC !!!!! PATHETIC

    • Nicholas King

snobs like you make me hate to game on pc

    • UselessOverpoweredDoorstop

Which PC games look better? Oh, that’s right, none because the best devs (like Rockstar) know thieving PC gamers DON’T BUY GAMES. Yes, they release once all the genuine consumers have bought the game ie 6 months after console release. This way, the product is worth a lot less when PC gamers steal it. If something won’t run on consoles, it don’t get made, buddy. Unless, of course you are talking indie games because they don’t really care about money. But as a result of that, small budget games just cannot have the content to require your $5,000 doorstop…sorry PC. I invite you to show me an indie game that is as good as, say, GTAV on consoles….even with all the settings turned to ultra. Haha. Enjoy watching that video card lose 80% of its value before a game even stretches it’s legs. FOOL.

      • Christopher L Banacka

LOL i have actually downloaded more xbox games then i have PC games :/
mainly cause PC games i can buy for cheap, 20$, not this 60$ BS

      • Game developer 3352

Really, the delay your thinking of comes as for PC release textures have to be improved and further Line of Sight development… etc… as to your example (probably thinking of GTAiv since you seem to like the choppy GTAv version on your and my consoles) which is why Rockstar decided not to do a PC version yet because they are likely waiting to re-release for the next gens and PC in a lil while once they work things out like multiplayer and develop the game further to work as well as the PC version of GTAiv did when they released it in December 2008, which FYI plays much smoother and looks sigificantly better than V on PS3 or 360… .

        • Game developer 3352

          Another factor is:

Intel director of marketing Chris R. Silva said, “At least with Grand Theft Auto, I don’t think it’ll be console-exclusive very long. But that’s what happens when you have a brand new launch with two companies that have lots of money trying to make sure they have content.”

Silva added that the reason Rockstar hasn’t yet announced GTAV on PC is because “Somebody paid a lot of money to make sure that title was exclusive.”

        • UselessOverpoweredDoorstop

Why would Sony or MS pay for exclusivity when that exclusivity includes their only competitor?? PC is not a competitor of consoles. It is a wholly different platform. Besides, mate, you never provided me an example of a game, a AAA title, that cannot run on the consoles. As a developer, why don’t you try to attract $250m to develop a game that can only be run a PC that is superior to consoles? Then let me know how that investment goes. And I note that you say GTAIV on PC is better than GTAV on consoles. Only problem is the actual sales figures. Also, what did you think Intel’s opinion of consoles would be when AMD was awarded contracts to supply to BOTH consoles. Of course Intel are PC fanboys…and so they should be…that’s where their sales are generated. Intel couldn’t care less about piracy…as long as they sell their over priced cards to PC gamers.

      • merri

The PC games sales market is orders of magnitude larger than any single console’s games sales.

    • Losyak

      What are you, six?
I’m a PC gamer but I have just as much respect for those who choose other forms of media. To each his own.

  • cell989

wow the difference is definitely there

  • Anthony

Yeah, it’s not “Magic”. It’s called dribbling. The ball goes down to the ground and up to your hand. It’s probably in motion in the screenshot.

  • Cinderkin

Not that I care for sport titles, but it’s nice to see a side by side comparison of a game coming out on both systems. Yet to see anything like this for Battlefield, Assassin’s Creed, Call of Duty, or any other game releasing for both generations. All we ever see is the next gen footage.

  • Russell Gorall

Interesting. Waiting for that knock on my door November 15th.

  • tom

Saw the PS4 trailer, these pics do not do it justice, Lebron James looks and moves lifelike on next gen console version.

  • cmoyano

man, this is nothing compared to crysis 3 models or other games on current gen, i dun see why people are salivating over this, they look awful, low ass blurry faces.

    • Losyak

Can you shoot hoops in Crysis 3?

      • merri

Can you shoot aliens in 2K14?

        • Losyak

          To each their own.

  • LordArklon

This is a joke, right? They both look awful. The huge difference isn’t so huge.

    • NgTurbo

Come on, that PS4 shot does not look ‘awful’… define nice then! :p

      • LordArklon

I’m sorry, but it kinda does. There isn’t much depth to face, and sharp corners are easily visible throughout the geometry; it just doesn’t look as smooth as it ought to. Textures appear rather low res considering the generational jump as well. That Morgan Freeman render is definitely what I’d call nice, but to be fair, I can’t imagine that many character models will look that way when there are several thousand other elements to render. Still, this player model should look considerably better than it does. Hate to say it, but the basketball itself is the best improvement from the looks of things. 2K usually delivers on the gameplay front, but there’s no reason we can’t have both. I’m still waiting to be impressed is all.

        • DeeJayKeys

Yeah… need glasses, are better resolution screen. That looks exactly like Lebron, short of seeing him in person. You’re nitpicking semantics

        • LordArklon

Umm…I’m not sure you understand the meaning of the word semantics, as the nits I was picking were very relevant to the graphical fidelity of the game. I didn’t say it didn’t look like Lebron, but then again the current gen version does as well, of which neither are particularly impressive. Sure it looks like him, but then again, a hand drawn caricature can look like Lebron James as well, so that’s neither here nor there.

        • John

You need to get laid lol

        • Losyak

          Don’t we all?

        • askjiir

Buy a PC. PS4 probably won’t cut it for you.
