Battlefield 4 graphics criticized on Xbox 360

By Alan Ng - Oct 3, 2013

As most of you will be well aware, the highly anticipated Battlefield 4 beta is now live on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The trial features gameplay opportunities on the Siege of Shanghai map, the same level that we have been seeing over and over these last few months and the same stage which features the epic building destruction shown at E3.

With the beta now available to the public, it also means that gameplay videos showing the beta on all three platforms is being uploaded to YouTube by the instant. However, not all are in praise of the beta as we’ve found one notable video which actually picks apart the Xbox 360 version.

Gamers and critics are starting to discover that there are significant graphical differences between the Xbox 360 and PC version. Naturally it is the PC version that EA has been showing off all Summer, but now the truth is out there on just how different Battlefield 4 looks on current-gen hardware.

One such video comes from Videogamer, as they have compared visuals with the beta on Xbox 360 just released. They pick apart the same gameplay scenes on the PC version as well for comparison, letting you get an exact idea of the visual content that has been cut away.

In fairness, the building destruction still looks very good on Xbox 360 compared to PC, but you only need to look at the water effects on Xbox 360 to see that DICE had to make some significant compromises in order to get the game running on Xbox 360.

The Xbox 360 version also suffers from severe pop-in issues

Is the early criticism justified though? We’ve also seen some positive comments from Xbox 360 users who are having no problems with the graphics and are just happy that Battlefield 4 can even run on the Xbox 360 hardware as it is.

This video doesn’t lie though. Watch it and let us know how big a deal the graphics differences are to you. Are you still planning to pick up the Xbox 360 version of the game after playing the beta or not?

Sales and marketing have been advertising pc graphics to sell this game, talking about how wonderful it is. When the beta came out for the 360, they said it’s just the beta and the full retail version would be much better. You are liars and you misled a large group of people. IMO you see the 360 as yesterday’s tech. because it is, you want to squeeze every drop of income you can get out of it. You did so by showing and touting the graphics from the pc to get people fired up for the game……360 included. I feel as though I’m playing the beta all over again. There is NO reason not to have developed this game with higher graphics….except not putting the time/effort into it because you are moving on toward the xbox one. That shows everybody your greed. I’m no longer excited about this game or it’s franchise. You all suck…big time.

I don’t understand, what were you guys expecting out of a 1.5 GB download? Of course everything’s going to look like crap when there’s no HD textures in the download.

I don’t get it. Why the constant comparison. It’s unbelievably obvious the PC version of a game will outshine the console version graphically.

I’m questioning about getting it now that I’ve played the beta. I’m honestly not enjoying it very much at all. I understand its just a beta…..early code, unbalanced, etc. But they’re gonna have to make a LOT of changes in the final version if I’m gonna actually enjoy it like I do BF3. Hopefully it’ll be a thousand times better on next gen.

Of course I’m getting it for XBox 360. I’ll level up faster than those who wait to get it for the next-gen consoles. I can trade in the game and get the XBox One version for just $10 through GameStop. No big deal. I would get PS4 but I don’t fancy its controller.

Same. Just hope the PS4 version uses the full capacity of the PS4 and is not dumbed down to suit Xbone’s capabilities…

Good thing I’m getting it for Xbox One.
