All-new Mini Cooper engines for 2014, price still eludes

With just a couple of months until the all-new Mini reveal, BMW thought now was an ideal opportunity to release details on the engines their new model range will be powered by, including the ever-popular Cooper. Having been tormented several times about the drivetrain, it is finally nice to get some official news.

The all-new Mini Cooper for 2014 has a range of new engines with one focus in mind, small but powerful. First up will be the 1.5-liter three-cylinder, which will produce 134 horsepower, and next is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that will offer 189 horsepower thanks to overboost, which is TwinPower turbocharging along with direct injection.

BMW also said that a more-powerful John Cooper Works edition will be launched in spring 2014, although they have not shared the particulars. However, we are certain they will be much higher than the two new engines mentioned above.

New Mini engines detailed including 2014 Cooper

To help improve efficiency will be a new six-speed transmission, which is straight from BMW, as well as those new engines. No other information has been shared in terms of its new design or interior, but changes will need to be made, especially to the latter, as technology is moving at a fast rate and needs to be implemented in the cars we drive.

As yet BMW has not given details on their all-new 2014 Mini Cooper price, but we should know more at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

Overall, we are not impressed with those power figures from the new engines, although we will have to wait and see how that transforms into performance once mounted onto the Mini new chassis.
