Battlefield 4 PS4 vs. PC gameplay footage

By Peter Chubb - Sep 29, 2013

If you are considering a move to next-gen then one title that needs to be on your list is Battlefield 4. Okay, so we know some of you would rather Call of Duty and that is fine, but it is clear development of BF4 is moving along very nicely and judging from the various gameplay videos we have seen, it is going to be a close battle between the PS4 version of the game and the Xbox One. However, because most XBox One gameplay footage has been removed we thought we would ad a PC comparison instead.

It is for this reason why we wanted to show you videos of Battlefield 4 PS4 and PC gameplay footage in the hope that it will show you just how different the game looks on each platform. The again, we already know some of you will still be saying these next-gen consoles will not be able to compete with BF4 on the PC, which we know you can tweak settings to get the most from the game.

The first video is three Battlefield 4 PS4 gameplay videos in one and while it is not the best in terms of quality, it does give you 10 minutes of gameplay, but we would have liked to see something with better quality. However, all of these type of videos are the same, which is no surprise considering the developers and publishers have been a little mean when it comes to offering official gameplay footage.

Having said that, we have found some better footage, which is some Battlefield 4 PC multiplayer gameplay footage, although the video would have us believe it is Xbox One footage, which is all in 1080p. This video gives you a good idea of the destructible environments, as well as the new weapons that will be available to you.

While it is hard to give you a true side-by-side comparison of BF4 on the PS4 and the PC, you do get a little taster of what is to come. Although, the jump in terms of performance compared to current-gen is not as much as we would have liked, although it is going to take time for developers to get the most from their engines and the new consoles.

To get your gaming juices going we now have the Battlefield 4 maps list and multiplayer launch guide.

Update: Sorry for that, I have now edited this to compare the PS4 version to the PC.

The “Xbox One” video is actually the PC build. That’s already been confirmed by DICE. Xbox One gameplay has only been shown at Eurogamer and people were pretty underwhelmed compared to the PS4 version.

  • Dennis Crosby

The Xbox One version is from a dev kit this was taken before Microsoft started to optimize. It other video out there that have a side by side comparison

  • The-Master

    The PC version looks better.
The second screen is called the Xbox One version, but it was running on PC, you won’t have that in the final version of the Xbox One.

  • Clarence Thompkins II

    1. PS4 vid is cam view while Xbone is Live Feed (live feed being better quality)
    2. Xbone is Single player while PS4 is multiplayer (mulitplayer always has the inferior graphics)
    3. Where’s the PC game

    • Aaron Lefebvre

The second video is not XboxOne, its the PC version. lol At 4:39, you can see the “E” button pop up to press the elevator button…pretty sure the XboxOne does not have an E button.

      • Clarence Thompkins II

either way this comparison is all F’d up =P

  • Vinicius

even with a lower resolution video the xbox one is much better than ps4… XBOX ONE DAY ONE!!!

    • Bristow9091

You realise that was played on a PC with an XBOX One controller, right? 🙂

      • lou

why in the heck is microsoft waiting to let PC users use their Xbox one controllers? I heard they had some lame excuse and we won’t be able to use them with proper support until next year. Granted I’d only use it for 3rd person games like skyrim, batman, etc

  • Dakan45

How about we wait for the game to come out and let lens of truth speak for us.

    @PeterChubb (author of this article)
Just got done reading several of your posted articles. Details and accuracy are not your strong point.
You are woefully uneducated on the subjects you choose.

  • coolguyhero

    ok couple of things.

ps4 game-play is multi-player game-play which is running on alpha code & xbox1 game-play is single player game-play which is should not compare both.

secondly which i fear is true that Microsoft & EA signed a big deals for xbox1 because of that EA is not using PS4 full capabilities.if they use full PS4 hardware capabilities then xbox1 will lack in the competition.

This is same from EA ….everyone is saying PS4 is strong & you will see that when Naughty dog, quantic dream & other sony owned studios release thier games.

    • EABoxOne

Absolutely agree. BF4 is the only EA game I’ll miss as a PS4 gamer. Clearly, EA are siding with Microsoft, which is foolish for a thrid party developer. Especially when it seems they are backing the weaker console. Was going to get BF4 day one, then upgrade for my PS4, but not after finding out they are deliberately gimping the PS4 version. I think we assume we can expect this treatment on all future EA games, which is just bad business from EA as Microsoft cannot have paid that much for the PS4 gimping deal… I’ll just have to pick up CoD Ghosts. Activision might be just as evil as EA, but they are no where near as stupid.

  • You are flat out wrong

Urgh, BF4 on Xbone looks like total dog****. Not surprising with its underpowered hardware. Xbone will be totally obsolete in a year.

    “Bu bu but muh cloud!!!”

  • jdp12

the gameplay you listed as PS4 is actually X1 gameplay, and the X1 gameplay is running on a high-end PC

    • Mitchings

    • Clarence Thompkins II

I dont know if you see the buttons but they are the PS4 buttons for the PS4 gameplay

  • abberjam

    This article is a joke.

  • rekof

nice compairing a PC e3 simgleplayer at 1440p on ultra, with PS4 multiplayer from ofscreen camera shot,..

    Xboxts are desperate,..

IT is going to look better on PS4 ,.. no matter what,.. because it has better hardware ,.. at lest 30-40 percent

  • Tonny

God damn that ps4 version looks nasty. No better than last gen

    • DaEmph

Maybe you need thicker lens for your glasses…..

      • Tonny

If u think that looks good for next gen then you are one deluded individual!

        • Ben

You either have really bad eye sight, or you are a particularly bad troll. Either way, jog on treacle.

        • Tinny

I’m not trolling mate just stating a fact. I’m not saying its going to look any better on xbox. What’s with you Sony guys??? I merely stated it does not look next gen, which it doesn’t. I’m sorry if my observation upset you. I apologise. How’s this. “Man that looks awesome! They r the next gen console graphics I’ve been waiting for. Ps4 rules!!!!!!!!” Happy now!

  • kevin

Still getting it on Xbox one.that all that matters.

    • BeastlyRig

      ur the minority..

      • jdp12

        $500 for a crappier everything.

  • s8anicslayer

The X1 footage was from e3 and was confirmed to be running on a pc

  • SwappingFrom360toPS4

Bit of a fail article… but all that you lovely people need to know is

    BF4 on PS4 @ 900p 60fps
    BF4 on XB1 @ 720p 60fps
    BF4 on PC @ 1080p 60fps (or higher)

    • Nick TwinkleToes Setzer

Says the guy with no link lol

      • SwappingFrom360toPS4

well I guess that makes me just about as credible as this article =P

IGN says it was running at above 720p but not quite 1080p at gamescom
” it was running at a resolution higher than 720p, but not 1080p”

And, BF4Central says has reported that it runs at 900p
“The PS4 version reportedly runs at 900p (upscaled to 1080p) at 60 frames per second.”

but DICE or EA haven’t gone on record with a specific confirmation as of yet =S

        • guest

They have not yet fully optimised the games for PS4, the builds shown at Gamescom were really early builds, a more recent report of person who got hands on BF4 on PS4 at the Tokyo Games Show said that it compared very well to a high end PC, and that was coming from a PC gamer.

At the end of the day, $400 for a PS4 is superb value for the performance it offers.

        • SwappingFrom360toPS4

          yep =)

    • Heayly

And again…. you make no sense with that “Bf4 on PC”. It differs between every PC and how much money you spend. I don’t think my old PC will run it with 1080p and 60 fps….

So your argument is technically invalid.

      • Infinidecimal

You’re using an old pc, so your argument is retarded.

      • SwappingFrom360toPS4

lol, obviously, everyone knows this, it is not something that people need to be told…
but fine, i edited it for you =P

      • Dakan45

The game is not very demanding and you dont know the settings it runs on consoles, also its gonna be more optimized with amd new tech, dont expect to need a super pc

    • guest

Just pointless comparing thousands of different configurations of PCs to fixed hardware $400 consoles. New PC gaming rigs can cost anything between $600 to $3000.

DICE have said they have not yet fully optimised the BF4 game engine for next gen consoles so we don’t know what the final resolutions, but I know my 4 year old PC gets nowhere close to 1080p/60fps on BF3.

      BF4 on PS4 @ ????p 60fps
      BF4 on XB1 @ ????p 60fps
      BF4 on PC @ anything between 400p to 1440p @ 30 to 90fps

  • Aaron Lefebvre

The XboxOne has an “E” button? lol 4:39. Its PC not XboxOne.

  • lol

the second video is NOT xbox one footage, it’s the same gameplay from E3 running on a high-end PC
