For those of you planning to pick up a PS4 this November, there may be some confusion lingering in the air as to how PS3 upgrades to PS4 games will work when picking up both platform versions of a game. With this in mind, we’re pleased to see that Sony has detailed an article, explaining the exact process that is involved and the supported games and discounts available so far.
We have told you previously that those picking up a PS3 disc version of a game and then upgrading to a next-gen version of the same game, would be able to do so on select titles for just $9.99. We can confirm that in relation to PS4, Sony has confirmed that this incentive will be available for Call of Duty Ghosts, Watch Dogs, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and Battlefield 4.
While this list may seem incredibly thin at the moment, Sony has said that the incentive may extend to other titles further on down the line. It goes without saying that the likes of FIFA 14 and Diablo 3 should really be on this list as well – especially when you think that Xbox One users will be getting FIFA 14 completely free.
As detailed on Sony’s blog, it has now become apparent that users will have to insert a PS3 disc of one of the four games mentioned above, into the PS4 for an ‘activation’ to take place. Once you have done that, you’ll be able to download and play a digital PS4 version of the same game for just $9.99.
It’s important to note that this $9.99 upgrade offer won’t last forever. Sony has confirmed the cut off dates for each game, but these won’t occur until 2014 so you have plenty of time to decide whether you think this offer is worth it – we think it’s a no brainer for Battlefield 4 since it’s worthwhile to start earning those unlocks as soon as possible.
Check out all of the details through Sony’s blog and let us know your thoughts on the incentive. It is obviously a good deal, but do you wish games such as FIFA 14 and Diablo 3 were included as well?
