2013 Haswell MacBook Pro, iMac joins event MIA list

By Peter Chubb - Sep 11, 2013

We cannot believe how many times we have discussed the new iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S, but this was always going to be the case because it being such a huge deal. A few weeks leading up to the event there had been rumors of other devices being showcased, as well as release details of iOS 7.

As with all Apple events there will always be some people left feeling disappointed because they had assumed other products were coming. Just a couple of weeks before the Apple event we had heard and reported on the rumors that we could see the 2013 Haswell MacBook Pro and iMac, and seeing price cuts for the former did seem to back this claim up.

However, the more we thought about it the more it seemed less likely to happen. The reason we say this is because there had been suggestions leaking from Apple that Mac OS X Mavericks was not going to be ready for release until late October. There is also the fact that the new MacBook Pro has now started shipping from suppliers, and so will take a little time to get to the public

Why is this important? Apple is not going to release two new Mac devices while still running an old version of Mac OS X, and then have the issue of giving free upgrades to those who purchased a 2103 MacBook Pro and iMac with Haswell to Mavericks.

These two devices joins the event MIA list that also includes a larger screen iPhone – although that was never going to happen this year. Some readers said they thought the new iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 would make an appearance, but that was never going to happen.

The Mac Pro was also mentioned, but again this will be released once Mavericks is ready. We had thought a new Apple TV might have been unveiled but the biggest shock was no iWatch. There are many companies jumping on this bandwagon now, so we would have thought Apple would have done the same, although when was the last time you saw Apple follow the trend?

What did you think of Apple’s event yesterday, and what devices did you assume would be unveiled?

I am disappointed that the MacBook Pro with Haswell has been delayed until OS X Mavericks is ready. I wanted to make this purchase before flying south to spend Winter in Mexico. My opportunity to buy new Apple products is Sept/Oct. and not for Christmas. I could have upgraded the OS from Mexico. Now I will go without my new toy

I’m dissapointed too. If it’s any consolation, Apple has stores in every large city, and their prices are only (“only”?) about 15% higher in Mexico.

Hoho Stevie. LOL We Canadian Snowbirds are a large demographic group. We raised our kids and grand-kids to use the current technology and they expect results NOW and I agree. Having an announcement to say that something will be available in the “Fall” is not an announcement when we already knew this information. Apple is starting to sound like my government with their creative accounting. Sigh!
I still lov ya Stevie. … Granny xox
