Battlefield 4 developer preference for PS4 controller

By Alan Ng - Jun 28, 2013

Battlefield 4 is shaping up to be an amazing game on next-gen consoles, with DICE and EA confidently confirming that they will now be able to provide players with 64-man maps on PS4 and Xbox One, whilst also running at a solid 60FPS at all times. This week, we have some interesting comments to share with you, with regards to which control scheme DICE actually favors when developing the game on next-gen consoles.

With EA now signing an exclusive agreement with Microsoft for early exclusive Battlefield 4 content Xbox One, you may be surprised to hear that the lead designer for the game has actually disregarded any industry politics, by specifically revealing the PS4 DualShock4 controller to be the control scheme of choice for the next-generation of consoles.

Alan Kertz is a name that Battlefield 3 veterans should be very familiar with, as he was actually the Lead Designer for the game and will continue on in the same role for Battlefield 4. Kertz doesn’t just favor the PS4 DualShock4 controller over the Xbox 360 or Xbox One pad though, he also believes that every aspect of the pad is more favorable, as you’ll see in his Tweets below.

Considering that he is solely responsible for making sure the Battlefield 4 aiming system is the best it can be, it can only mean good things for gamers who are planning to pick up the PS4 version of the game. It will also be interesting to see how Xbox gamers react to this, with the Xbox 360 controller obviously their preferred method of input.

If the lead designer for Battlefield 4 believes that Sony’s DualShock4 pad for the PS4 is the best controller for next-generation, does this add more weight to your decision to purchase the PS4 over Xbox One? This should definitely appeal to all first-person shooter fans out there.
