Jaguar F-Type vs. 2014 Corvette Stingray convertible – Price and performance

2013 is a very important year for two companies, both of which are on different sides of the pond. Jaguar has their new F-type, which we already know is a huge hit considering a huge percentage of their production for this year has already been sold. Then there is the 2014 Corvette Stingray, which we know will be in very high demand, and so will be limited to only the best performing dealers for the first several months.

With the Jaguar F-Type being a convertible and their also being a convertible version of the C7 (although this will be released a little bit later than the hard top version) choosing between the two will come down to varying factors. These are price, the performance of both models (although there are three choices for the F-Type) and also the cool factor.

When you look at the price of the Jaguar F-type and the Corvette Stingray convertible it’s easy to see that the former will hit you harder in the pocket. The standard F-TYPE will cost $69,000, the F-TYPE S $81,000 and the F-TYPE V8 S $92,000. Compare this to the convertible Stingray, which will have a starting price of $56,000. It’s clear to see that the Chevy wins the price round, and even adding some of the performance extras will not put another $36,000 on the price.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray performance also takes the win, as she is expected to go from 0-60 mph in less than four seconds and reach a top speed of 180 to 190 mph. Compare this to the three F-Type models, 0-60 in 5.1 sec and 161 mph top speed, 0-60 in 4.8 sec and 171 mph top speed and finally 0-60 in 4.2 sec and 186 mph top speed respectively.

So it seems in order for the F-type to be able to keep up with the C7 in terms of performance, you will need to go for the F-TYPE V8 S, which as we already explained costs $36,000 more.

However, it’s not all about the overall price and top speed, although they are two main factors. The overall build quality is certain to be far better for Jaguar when compared to the new Chevy, as well the handling. You also have to consider deprecation, as the C7 could also lose more of its value, although not in the first few months to a year, as these models will be hard to come by. Having said that, there is no denying that the new Corvette Stingray looks awesome, even with those controversial rear light.

    The C7 has gained a couple hundred pounds bringing it up to about 3440+-. The F Type V8S is 3671. So the F Type is about 225-250 lbs heavier. Car & Driver clocked the F Type 0-60 at 3.6s and 11.9 1/4 mile. The Jags weight distribution is 50/50, a little better for the C7 at 49/51. Stats match up pretty close but my guess is the C7 will still be the better track car especially wearing the Super Pilot Sports vs the P Zeroes that Jag uses. My guess is the C7 is a couple seconds quicker around most tracks. I’ll take the Jag because every time I see a Vette I picture a redneck kid or a over weight middle aged, beer drinking factory worker driving it. I think Jag has finally lost the tweed hat, pipe smoking, scotch drinking older englishman persona. I like the looks of the Stingray but I still expect to see it parked in front of a trailer or bar.
