Final Fantasy 14 PS3 release date, monthly price for UK, US

By Alan Ng - May 24, 2013

We have some important news for those of you planning to pick up Final Fantasy XIV when it launches on PS3 and PC. Square-Enix has finally revealed solid information on the PS3 version of the game, including a release date and more importantly – the price per month that you’ll pay to enter Square-Enix’ servers.

As most of you are well aware, the game originally launched on PC back in 2010, but to universal criticism which forced Square-Enix to cancel their plans and announce a complete revamp. That revamp has almost arrived now though, with the Japanese developer and publisher announcing that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be available to buy on August 27 – both PS3 and PC platforms included.

The game will be an always-on MMO remember though, so those picking up the PS3 version specifically will need to know that there are costs involved. Square-Enix has now released this information as well, confirming that a 30 day subscription to the game will cost £7.69 in the UK and $14.99 in the US. If you fancy digging into your wallets further, there is also an option to subscribe to a longer 180 day package – priced at $12.99 per month instead.

With these costs in place, it now means that Square-Enix cannot afford to have a bad launch or suffer a repeat of the same problems that plagued the original PC version. PS3 gamers especially may not be accustomed to paying a monthly fee for a game, so it will be interesting to see the initial reaction once the game launches this Summer.

If you are planning to pick up a special edition of the game, you can find detailed information on the bonuses involved, by visiting the PlayStation Blog here. Don’t forget that the PS3 beta test will also start next month as well, allowing console players to finally have a preview of the game since all previous tests were only for PC players.

So there we have it – expect more details to come at E3 2013. Let us know if you are willing to pay £7.69 or $14.99 a month to revisit Final Fantasy 14.

I’m a beta tester for this game, so keep in mind that these are my opinions and nothing more. The game is graphically stunning. I would have to say one of the best games graphics-wise I have seen so far. Just as well, even though full cutscenes and quests haven’t been implemented yet, what I have seen of them has been quite nice and fills the role of an RPG quite well. I’m not quite fanboy about it yet, however I have preordered and am now waiting (quite impatiently) for closed beta phase 3, followed by phase 4 (open beta). Watch the troll, don’t feed it.

Being a life long FF fan, I can say things haven’t been great from square enix lately, pretty much since squaresoft, but I will say FF XIV ARR is a breath of fresh air in a company that smells of something rotting lately. I am very impressed with what I have seen and read, and I believe that for the first time in along time they be delivering a quality product. I will absolutely purchase this, the one question I have is wether to see if it ports to ps4, and wait so I can play current console, and buy it on ps3 and switch off and on between the consoles when ps4 is released. Seeing as how Sony is tyrannical with there backward capability intentions outside of Gaikai.

Crap game who cares. Square-Enix lost their creative touch and their fans have lost faith in them. It was when Square merged with Enix their games went to the toilet. I miss the good ole Square Soft. Good luck to anyone who plays this joke of a game.
