Xbox Infinity may stun world at May 21 event

By Alan Ng - May 10, 2013

You know that the Xbox 720 moniker was always going to be a long shot right? While Microsoft’s next Xbox console is officially known as Durango internally, speculation is now mounting that the final name of the console will end up known as Xbox ‘Infinity’. It has a great ring to it we feel and we now have another glimpse at the logo which we may be seeing at the May 21st Xbox event.

If you are a regular Reddit lurker, you may have seen a post two weeks ago, which revealed the image you see above, as the next Xbox design and moniker. Many gamers treated the Xbox Infinity name as just another rumor, but now there’s further evidence that it could be true.

A report published by the IBTimes claims that their sources have also told them that the next Xbox is also going to be called Xbox Infinity. Microsoft are apparently going to be using the slogan, ‘Infinite entertainment, Infinite possibilities’ to market the next console and May 21 could be when we will all see this logo flashed across the big screen.

Without actually using the words infinite, Microsoft may instead be using the logo that symbolizes the infinite meaning – a logo that you would usually see as a fighting game time limit setting, for example. We think it looks great – simple, attractive and straight to the point.

It’s definitely better than Xbox ‘720’ and indeed other rumored names such as Ten, Loop or even Fusion, which doesn’t match at all. Microsoft has traditionally decided against commenting on what they deem as rumor and speculation, but all will be revealed in just under 10 days time at Microsoft’s event.

What are your thoughts on this – are you digging the Xbox Infinity name or hoping for something else? More details on this developing story as we get it.

Why are people complaining about backwards comparability?
Who plays old Xbox games? Technology moves forward so just enjoy the better gameplay and graphics, if it bothers you that much keep your 360 locked in a cupboard for when you do want to play and old game.
There will still be games made for 360 anyway for a good few years to come.

I’m wanting Xbox and always have. It’s not all about exclusives even though I’m a die hard halo fan. Firstly the controller is better on Xbox, with ps I feel like I’m going to crush the thing. I just get a better experience with the Xbox controller. Most important to me however is the online experience. Xbox has in my opinion has always been better. I don’t care if I necessarily pay, everything is better and easier, although this is based on the current consoles.
Microsoft isn’t stupid though, I hope that they realize that they need to listen and reward their community more. We’ll see on the 21st, I’m putting all my faith in Microsoft for this one.

How can the controller even be a legitimate argument when the PS4 is getting a new controller? Online? How is it better to pay a yearly fee when you can get it for free with Playstation.. and after all the new social/sharing features that will be on the PS4 they’re clearly going to offer a brilliant online experience. I think Sony are going to win this one.

Any true gamer will choose the system that offers the best selection in games over the lifespan of the system, not just the first few years of the system’s life.

What exclusives do Xbox fans get for 2013? Gears of War: Judgment.

What exclusives do Playstation owners get for 2013? God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Ni no Kuni, Until Dawn, Gran Turismo 6, Diablo III, Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection, MLB 13: The Show, Dust 514, and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

Add in the Uncharted, Little Big Planet, inFamous, Killzone, Resistance, Ratchet & Clank, MotorStorm, Twisted Metal, WipEout, Warhawk/Starhawk, and SOCOM IPs and the Playstation is the clear choice for a core gamer.

As for only showing a controller, who cares? When the 360 came out it looked like it belonged in a kid’s bedroom. When the PS3 came out it looked like it belonged next to high end stereo components. One thing I’m not concerned with is Sony’s ability to design attractive equipment.

I totally agree with this comment. The Playstation exclusives are much better than the one or two Xbox have to offer. Uncharted alone is one of the best series of all time and I want my new console to play future Uncharted titles, as well as guaranteed Metal Gear and all the other great exclusives and that = Playstation.

I’m also far happier to give my money to Sony as Micro$oft are a money-grabbing, rubbish company, that have a track record of trying to screw the competition whilst shifting poor products and relying on aggresive marketing.

If you want the best selection of future games you should buy a PS4 and even game developers themselves have said what a horrible experience it is working with Micro$oft and that they’re fully behind Sony (even Bungie).

If you want exclusives, get a Wii U. Mario, Link, Kirby, Samus. Or did you forget Nintendo exist like 80% of the planet now

        • Elliott

Nintendo don’t really offer the type of gaming experience that I like. I want cinematic incredible blockbuster exclusives like Uncharted, not cartoony ones like Mario etc.

        • Rambir

Nintendo why did you make the Wii, it’d ruined your image. Have you tried monster hunter, legend of Zelda, Madworld. Nintendo still game blockbuster games, some much better than Xbox or don’t counterparts. The problem is that many of this generation want to play CoD, or think Nintendo is for babies. The only thing holding me back from a Wii U is Nintendo’s image. But for me the perfect set up is my computer and a Wii U when u pluck up the courage to go into GAME and buy one.

        • Elliott

I can’t say I’ve played monster hunter or madworld but I’ve never been a massive Zelda fan. I know it’s really popular but I never got into it. In my opinion, the Uncharted series are the best out of any exclusive games and I want my console to play them. I’ve been happy with my PS3 and I’ll be buying a PS4 and anyone that hasn’t at least played Uncharted 2 and 3 should give them a go because they’re brilliant.

Don’t care too much about the name. Pretty annoyed by the fact that neither the new MS nor the Sony products will be backwards compatable. A harsh slap in the face to loyal followers. Also don’t want to end up seeing a controller with a touchscreen on it. I don’t want a WiiU

    • If you follow the rumors, especially on the Microsoft side since everything is a rumor for them, “Infinity” will be backwards compatible due to a SoC, or System on Chip, setup that would literally be a Xbox 360 on a chip to allow for backwards compatibility. Microsoft is not slapping anyone in the face harshly except Sony on June 10th.

The name isnt my main concern. As a hardcore gamer all i want is for ms to give us new hardcore ip’s. If the last 3 & a half years with bs kinect games is all they have to offer its current 360 users then I know how they will continue to do more of the same with the xbox infinity. I think sony’s ps4 sounds like a hardcore gamers dream console but also appealing to all audiences since it should launch at a competitive price. Im leaning more towards a ps4 before the xbox infinity.

  • Dont care what its called as long as they don’t just show the controller or the cables and nothing else.
