Pokemon X and Y and The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2 may be the two standout games to lookout for on Nintendo 3DS this year, but don’t forget about Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D. The 3DS conversion from Wii looks absolutely stunning on the smaller screen and we have a brand new gameplay trailer for you, which gives you a little idea of what we mean.
To remind you, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is due out this month, on May 24 – both in retail stores and online directly from Nintendo’s growing eStore. The game is the full version that was available on Wii, but with some notable new features to distinguish it from the console version.
These include either playing in the original untouched mode as seen on Wii, or playing in a new mode which features brand new items which apparently make the game easier to play. Perhaps best of all though, the 3DS version will also contain brand new levels that previously were not available in the Wii game.
It means that it isn’t just a lazy port. The game has been developed by Monster Games instead of Retro Studios and has been built from the ‘ground up’. We could have easily seen a cash-in situation here with the exact same game just converted into 3D, but we’re glad that this isn’t going to be the case.
The famous music from the SNES classic is back as well, some of which you’ll see previewed in the new trailer above. While some of you may be initially disappointed that Retro are not making this game, it also has to be said that Monster Games has done a fantastic job, with Retro Studios already giving their seal of approval.
It also means that Retro could be working on a secret new Metroid game as well, but let’s save that talk for another day. Enjoy the amazing Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D gameplay above and let us know if you are buying this for your 3DS this month.
