2014 Corvette (C7) Stingray vs. Audi R8 and McLaren MP4-12C

By Peter Chubb - May 8, 2013

If you’ve ever wondered how the C7 Corvette Stingray will compare to some of its rivals, then you are in for a treat, as there is a spy shot that shows the 2014 Corvette Stingray lining up against an Audi R8 and McLaren MP4-12C. That’s not all, the new vehicle from Chevrolet is also seen testing alongside a Ferrari 458 and a Porsche 911 Carrera S.

It’s certainly a real treat to see the C7 ZR1 driving around with those vehicles mentioned above, all of which you can see in these spy photos. Seeing the new version of the Corvette next to the likes of the McLaren MP4-12C is proof that the C7 ZR1 will be no slouch, and rumors of more than 700 horsepower proves that.

Having said that, we know that cars like this are great when on less-demanding tracks, but add in more than your fair share of corners, as we’re sure the R8 and MP4-12C will show the C7 how a car should truly handle.

We do hope the 2014 Corvette (C7) Stingray will be very different, and with Chevy suggesting that the new ZR1 will have world-class performance fills us with some confidence. They are certainly building the car up, as it’s also said the new C7 will give you one of the best driving experiences from a sports car, although we do find that a little hard to believe.

Let’s say that Chevy has been able to improve the handling with their new sports car, we do hope the C7 ZR1 interior is a vast improvements, because this is a key area where they have lacked in recent years, whereas their rivals have excelled.

Personally, I feel that the Corvette will never be able to compare to the likes of Ferrari or Porsche, but when it comes to the amount of power compared to the price, the Corvette will be a tough nut to crack.

This author’s bias is unbecoming of a journalist. The current C6 ZR1 is faster around just about every track it is has been tested on than any production Porsche or Audi and most of the Ferrari cars as well. That included Nurburgring which is the Gold Standard for “most demanding” track in the world. In fact, at one point in time the C6 ZR1 held the production car lap record on that track. The irony is the only track any of the current Porsche cars are quicker than a ZR1 are the 1/4 mile drag strip (and that is only the time as the ZR1 has a higher trap speed which means it is still faster overall in a straight line).

I agree with reality check 100%. The author is either uninformed, or biased. It really hurts the Euro car lovers when their favorite makes are beaten by a cheaper car form the land of Hillbillies.
Being a hillbilly is no indication of mechanical ability, and they build a fast car in Bowling green,Ky.
