Fallout 4 vs. Elder Scrolls 6, next-gen preference

By Daniel Chubb - May 1, 2013

You don’t need to look far to see a lot of love for Bethesda, even if there were haters during the PS3 problems with Skyrim, and now we look forward to what game will be next from Bethesda Game Studios. We know they are working on something next-generation and two of the biggest upcoming games would be Fallout 4 and Elder Scrolls 6.

Most of our readers know their game developers and publishers well, but we can’t believe the amount of bloggers not understanding the difference between Bethesda Game Studios and Bethesda Softworks. In a nutshell, the latter publishes and the first developers the games.

Fallout 4 vs. Elder Scrolls 6 and next-gen preference – The Evil Within will be published by Bethesda Softworks, so this leaves the Game Studios arm to fully focus on a new game now that there will be no more Skyrim DLC.

If you take a look at the official website you’ll see the latest games listed as Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, although we do wonder what their next game will be? With the next Xbox, aka 720, and PS4 launching shortly it makes sense for Bethesda to want a title on these platforms as soon as possible.

Bethesda Game Studios is hiring for future-generation consoles – most gamers would have seen this news a couple of months ago, which revealed talent is being hired by Bethesda for a next-gen title. The details are seen in the above image, although there’s been no confirmation about the title being worked on.

Fallout 4 would be our number one choice for the next-gen title Bethesda Game Studios is working on, although it is worth pointing out that there are a number of outcomes, which it would be stupid to ignore the massive PS3 and Xbox 360 user base. You can see some interesting ideas for Fallout 4 below this article, which is thanks to comments by our readers.

Elder Scrolls 6 would be amazing on next-gen – being a user of PC and consoles we see both sides of the popular debate, although consoles are still favoured by us thanks to the simplicity and support by developers/publishers. It is true over the last year we have seen a number of console gamers go PC again, but next-gen consoles might cause some of these PC gamers to jump to consoles again, how about you?

PC’s are miles ahead of the aging console hardware in terms of graphics, and while graphics isn’t everything it has certainly made a difference after so many years since the PS3 and Xbox 360 launched.

Now the PS4 is about to see a release date and the Next Xbox as well, we will see console graphics improve drastically and other improvements will make Elder Scrolls 6 on a next-gen console something truly amazing. Skyrim took a while to develop, but it wouldn’t surprise us if the time to develop Elder Scrolls 6 is shorter thanks to a new generation of console being upon us, although knowing Bethesda they won’t rush things.

Would you like Fallout 4 or Elder Scrolls 6 to be the next-gen title Bethesda Game Studios is working on?

Fallouts sooooo much better than elderscrolls, Oblivion is the best Elderscrolls, Fallout #1 Skyrim #9999999999

  • 3Force

I love the TES games, but i think a new fallout would be better, considering it’s been a while since they put a new one out.

  • Dave

I’m a fan of both, I’ve been itching for a real fallout game, New Vegas just didn’t meet expectations. I love both series. Yes, there are some major fallout haters but like 70% of them played fallout 3 for like 5 hours and gave up. It’s a notoriously slow starting game. So my guess is most people will cry for another TES game, but you can’t really go wrong with either. Fallout 4 developed by Bethesda is due.

  • i am a fan of both fallout and the elder scrolls but i would like to see
fallout 4 on the next generation consoles because bethesda has not made
a fallout game since fallout 3 and bethesda made elder scrolls: skyrim
and elder scrolls fans is busy playing that game while fallout series
fans are waiting very impatiently for a fallout 4 game to be released on
the next generation consoles and the old consoles like xbox 360 and
ps3. so in conclusion i would like to see fallout 4 on the next
generation consoles and on the old consoles as well.

    • that is the info i got from articles and other people comments. i could be wrong but that is my opinion

I think that they will develop the game for current consoles. However, since E3 is coming up in a few weeks, I think we will soon hear from the developers and the hardware designers at Sony and Microsoft, and in that time I honestly wont be surprised if Bethesda tells us that the game will be available on the next-gen set of consoles.

Elder Scrolls and Fallout fans are in the same boat. We’re both waiting for a new game (Elder Scrolls hasn’t had that long of a wait in my opinion). I loved Fallout 3. Hands down, my favorite game of all time. If you haven’t played it, go buy it, and play it.

I cant wait for F4. I feel like New Vegas was a good demonstration of where they can make improvements for Fallout 4 and where they showed us some of the new stuff they had in mind (Hardcore Mode, for example). I just feel like it didnt feel like as much of a Wasteland, and it seemed really bland. I mean, Las Vegas is already in a desert, if its bombed (or not entirely damaged) during a nuclear event, its ALREADY a desert… Its not going to change too much for the most part. I felt like it was just less “wow” than Fallout 3. I liked how I felt I was really a survivor of a Nuclear holocaust living underground who emerges into a World that was truly changed, altered by the experience. I can only hope that Fallout 4 brings that same sense of ‘wow”.

      Edit: So
Fallout all day, man. Cant say that Elder Scrolls is a bad game at all, I really have a love for the Developer.

But Fallout takes the cake for me, primarily because it has a “set-in-the-future-yet-feels-oldschool,-dropping-fatman-nukes-strapped-with-a-gatling-laser” kind of feel, while games like Skyrim have that ‘Midevil-cast-a-spell-on-a-muh-fugga-then-smash-his-head-with-a-mace” kind of feel… So to each his own, im just the type who like the realism in Fallout 3. I’ve spent so many hours surviving in the Capital Wasteland, I feel like if North Korea bombed us tomorrow, I’d have a leg up on people.

    • Could not agree with you more on this. I have loved the elder Scrolls games since the beginning, but I find myself yearning more for Fallout for some reason. I love just about anything that Bethesda heads up. They are the most immersive and interactable games available, and with the new creation engine at their disposal who knows where they could go with the Fallout series, especially on the next gen consoles. My question (open for speculation) is will they release it for both platforms or strictly the next gen? Fallout will be the nedt Bethesda game, no question about that…then the next ES.

It’s pretty obvious that Fallout 4 will be next, they’re not going to make all of the Fallout fans wait for another Elder Scrolls, not when they’ve already been waiting since 2010 (or 2008 for those that didn’t get New Vegas), whereas they can afford to let the Elder Scrolls fans wait because of The Elder Scrolls Online coming out later this year.

Personally, I like Fallout a little more than Elder Scrolls, but I love both of them. I’ve finished all of Fallout 3, but I still have plenty left to do in Skyrim even after 200 hours, and I haven’t even bought the DLC yet. So I’m definitely ready for Fallout 4. Bethesda, you better not keep me waiting too long. You’ve been working on this game since 2010, finish it soon please.

  • Wow, ok so Fallout is not an FPS. An FPS is Doom, Half-Life and Unreal. Fallout and Elder Scrolls are both RPG’s. It’s like calling GTA a racing game when it too is an RPG, albeit nowhere near as detailed and complex as Bethesda. Of course, Bethesda has been in a class by themselves for a long time. More a solo MMO if you ask me.

    • Doctor Phil

      MMO = Massively Multiplayer Online

It’s not Multiplayer, or Online. Maybe MRPG lol

  • Frossington

I am going with Fallout 4 because 3 just started to go dry after beating broken steal hundreds of times. Although Elder Scrolls 6 could be rather nice.

  • I’m fine with Fallout 4 but I’d prefer something new or ES6. There are too many fps games already

  • Pip Boy

“PC’s are miles in front of consoles in terms of graphics”. Duuno about miles. Have you seen the Last of Us? Looks better than any game I have seen before and its obviously a PS3 exclusive.
I would love to see Fallout 4 rather than ESVI.

  • Skyrim was pretty cool, but unlike most people who played it, I got bored quickly. I would much rather prefer a new Fallout. Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games of all time.

  • Ranndle

Elder Scrolls isn’t really that good. I personally think Oblivion had better plot and everything than Skyrim, but nothing can beat Fallout!

  • Why not both?

My bet is on FO4, and i hope iam righ. I still have’nt finnished all skyrim content and I don’ want another ESC game anytime soon. They could have been developing FO4 for many years now so iam hoping to see an announcement this summer. And the final realise next summer or before chrismas (2014).

  • kingengle

Since there is already and Elder Scrolls title coming soon (Elder Scrolls Online) even though it is PC exclusive, I would guess that FO4 would be the next console title to come out. IIRC, it has also been a longer gap between FO3 until now vs. ESV;Skyrim and now (I don’t remember if FO:NV was before or after Skyrim – I think before…).

    • kingengle

To clarify – I would stand in line for either FO4 or ESVI

    • Jinton

New Vegas was released over a year before Skyrim! Just so that you know 🙂

      • New Vegas was not a Bethesda title, thouh. It was put out by Obsidian. Fo3 was the last Fallout title released by Bethesda, so it’s been a long time coming. Just after Skyrim was released, the team announced that they could now begin in the development of their next big progect, and after they shut down Skyrim development last month they announced that they could focus all their effots in developing their next project…likely Fallout 4.
