Pokemon X and Y New Mewtwo form divides opinion

It continues to be a rather frustrating period at the moment for many Pokemon fans, who are patiently awaiting fresh news from Nintendo or Game Freak on the highly anticipated Pokemon X and Y game for the Nintendo 3DS. Recently, we saw a new Pokemon unveiled – one which bears a striking resemblance to the legendary Mewtwo from the original Pokemon games.

Now, if you didn’t already know – it appears that this new Pokemon is going to be a new form of Mewtwo, rather than a new Pokemon altogether. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo and Game Freak are staying very silent on the matter, presumably because this new version of Mewtwo will be showing up in the soon-to-be-released new Pokemon movie in Japan.

What we can tell you though, is that there is a brief snippet of information from the latest issue of Japanese magazine Coro Coro, which apparently confirms that the new creature is indeed a new forme of Mewtwo. Initially, we heard strong rumors that the name could turn out to be ‘Godspeed’ Mewtwo, but those rumors appear to have died down – despite the fact that the Godspeed Mewtwo information came from source code within the Japanese Pokemon website.

The US website in comparison continues to tease the creature. They have not given a name yet, but have called it a ‘new Pokemon’ and have provided a reminder of the close ties with Mewtwo, for those that didn’t play the older games. We’ve read a lot of feedback on this new form of Mewtwo – some of it positive, but a lot of it actually negative.

It seems like a lot of Pokemon veterans do not want to see any new variation of Mewtwo, instead preferring to leave him alone and keep his ‘Legendary’ status in tact. Where do you stand on the debate? Give us your reaction to the new form of Mewtwo, and also the fact that Nintendo and Game Freak are taking their time on releasing new information for X and Y.
