Lotus recalls 2007-2008 Elise and Exige models in 2013

It’s not just mass produced cars that are susceptible to being recalled due to poor workmanship, or having to cut costs in order to keep up with demand. We say this because we have just learned that Lotus is to recall their 2007-2008 Elise and Exige models; these recalls are to begin on March 4, 2013.

The specific dates of the Elise and Exige vehicles affected by this latest round of recalls are from December 1, 2006, to October 31, 2007. The reason for this recall is due to an issue with the oil cooler, where in some cases it can become detached from the car.

While this doesn’t sound too bad of an issue, just imagine what would happen if the oil were to spray onto a tire? Many of us know what it is like to hit a patch of oil, so the thought of a continuous spray of oil is a very daunting prospect indeed.

However, that’s not as bad as it gets, because there’s also the possibility that oil could be sprayed into the engine compartment, which as you know is a fire risk.

We’re told that Lotus has said that they will inform owners who will be affected by this recall, which as we said above is to begin on March 4, 2013. The issue will be fixed free of charge, where both the oil hose and fittings will be replaced.

For more details on this recall then you can either phone Lotus on 1-800-245-6887 or NHTSA on 1-888-327-4236.
