We have just seen Sony announce their next generation PS4 console and now there are strong rumors suggesting that it won’t be long until Microsoft follow suit with their next Xbox as well. Initially it was thought that Microsoft would wait until the E3 period around June to announce their console, but it looks like fans are now set for an earlier treat.
Although we didn’t see Sony’s PS4 hardware at the February 20 event, we think the company showed plenty of reasons why consumers should be excited about what Sony will bring to the table when the console finally releases in the Holiday 2013 season.
We told you how Microsoft mocked Sony’s decision to not show the console yet, but now Microsoft themselves will have the chance to show us how it is done, with strong rumors suggesting that their ‘Xbox 720’ reveal will be taking place on April 26.
The rumor comes from Twitter, with CVG’s Rob Crossley claiming that he has been told the date by a trusted source close to Microsoft. It would obviously make sense for Microsoft to want to divert attention away from Sony’s surprise early PS4 event, but will they produce a system that matches Sony’s console in hardware features, or will the next Xbox go on to be the best out of the next gen consoles?
Whatever happens, current Xbox 360 owners will want to see the actual console on stage and Major Nelson’s dig at Sony tells us that they won’t be pulling a similar stunt if this early event takes place on April 26. An upgrade to Kinect is almost certain to happen, and it will be interesting to see if Microsoft can match Sony’s 8GB of RAM spec as well.
Would you be surprised if we see an early Xbox event from Microsoft, or is it expected now? After seeing what Sony had to offer with the PS4, what do you want to see from the next-generation Xbox console?
