New iPad to counter Surface Pro storage ability

By Peter Chubb - Feb 27, 2013

There have been several rumors to suggest that Apple could release a new iPad as early as March, but we’re hearing that there could me a new model even sooner. However, this is not expected to be the 5th-generation model but rather the 4th-gen model with a larger capacity of storage instead. If we are to believe what we have been reading then Apple could release a 128GB iPad, which would give it the same storage capacity as a Microsoft Surface Pro, which is due for release on February 9.

As with all rumors like this we cannot be certain as to its legitimacy, although 9to5 Mac say that their sources have found the SKU to back the rumor up. However, they are unable to give us pricing details on this larger capacity iPad, but we bet it will be around $100 more than the current 64GB version.

Because it’s still the fourth-generation iPad there will just be the two color versions, black and white and it is to join the current lineup of 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models. However, there are some consumers who feel that Apple should offer microSD storage instead of increasing the internal storage, but this is never going to happen.

There are several rumors to suggest that this increased storage iPad model could come with a few new features as well, but this is highly unlikely considering the fifth-generation is rumored to be released in the not too distant future – although we also find this very hard to believe.

We’re sure that there will be some people out there who would say why would they need a 128GB model, but others would then argue that the Microsoft Surface Pro also has the same storage capacity. However, you have to remember that the Surface Pro is far more than just a tablet because it’s more like an ultrabook book in the form of a tablet.
