2013 – 2014 iPhone strategy discussed in Tim Cook video

Tim Cook was at the D11 conference yesterday, and has been discussing many subjects, such as Google Glass and Apple’s 2013 – 2014 iPhone strategy. However, in true Apple fashion they managed to talk about these and several other subjects, while never really giving anything away.

Apple’s CEO spoke in detail about the release of several new iPhone models, and why they have yet to release more than one at this moment in time. He said that if they were to employee tactics used by rivals, then there would be several trade-offs, which is just reiterating what he has said in the past.

AllThingsD’s Walt Mossberg was on hand to ask questions that we have always wanted the answers to, such as asking Cook why they have yet to create a range of iPhones, just as they have done with the iPod. He said that creating more than one iPhone model is far more involved than a music player, as the resources involved in such an undertaking is much higher.

Cook said to do such a thing would be a daunting task, although he has not ruled out releasing more than one iPhone model side-by-side with their flagship model. He added that the features could be different, as could the price.

Okay, so this is not the news that we had hoped, but it’s proof that Apple is considering more models, but we don’t expect this to happen this year.

The thought of a larger iPhone – is a subject that has gained a mixed response from current iPhone users. Many of them have said that a slightly larger screen would be nice, but they do stipulate two things, they don’t want a phablet-sized iPhone, and not one made from plastic.

The perfect iPhone screen size for me would be 4.5 inches or just over, and it would be nice for a cheaper model, as it will allow those the opportunity to own an iPhone, who currently cannot afford one.
