iOS 6, 6.0.1 untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak meets D2 / WWJC

By Daniel Chubb - Dec 3, 2012

The question on the lips of most users wanting freedom with their iDevice focuses on the iOS 6 or 6.0.1 untethered jailbreak, especially for iPhone 5, and these jailbreakers are wondering when this will become available? The situation a few days ago revealed that certain Twitter users are still focusing on select jobs surrounding the iPhone 5 jailbreak, and this includes planetbeing looking at kernel exploits and p0sixninja looking for a way to dump the bootROM, which hasn’t been achieved for many years thanks to improved security with the iPhone hardware.

If p0sixninja manages to find what he’s looking for then we could see an untethered jailbreak for iPhone 5, or even iPhone 5S/6, much easier to achieve. You won’t have a problem finding Twitter users asking p0d2g about an iOS 6 untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak, and direct questions have increased since his Twitter account started updating again, but it seems p0d2g’s current focus isn’t the userland exploit that we all thought he’s working on as we can see in the tweet below.

He points out that each day is different and work could start back on the iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5, 4S, and other devices tomorrow, but currently p0d2g is “not focused on it“. This had been a question some people wanted answering after seeing a lot of tweets surrounding WWJC 2013 and becoming a DJ for the event. If you want to know more about that then see the first video below, which gives details about becoming a DJ at WWJC.

Another video uploaded you YouTube within the last couple of days is a live stream and discussion that focuses on an iOS 6 jailbreak for iPhone 5 among other things. This video runs for just under an hour and gives you a lot of insight into where the hackers, aka iOS security researchers, are right now with the iOS 6 or 6.0.1 untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak. Before asking where it is we recommend you watch the second video below if you haven’t seen it. This includes planetbeing, MuscleNerd, pod2g, and a few others giving details on where they are and this also shows that it could be some time yet before you see any kind of jailbreak.

It is nice to see p0d2g tweeting again, even if it’s about life as a DJ and WWJC, although we’re sure a number of our readers would prefer more details about an iOS 6 untethered jailbreak. Let us know in the comments what device you want to jailbreak from the iPhone 5 / 4S, iPad mini and other iPads? How do you feel about the lack of focus towards an iOS 6 jailbreak from those that will ultimately be the ones that find it? It is also fair to point out that these hackers have a life too, and with the iOS 6 jailbreak being such a problem they need timeout.

One thing is for sure and that’s the fact that iOS 6 and the iPhone 5 / 4S are the hardest to jailbreak yet, and this had been confirmed recently in a tweet by Joshua Hill, which explained the protection is “ridiculous” in iOS 6. Keeping people informed about the progress of an untethered iPhone 5 jailbreak is also important and this helps to stop people trying to sell fakes to newbies that won’t work. Hill also touched on this in a tweet a few days ago, when he stated keeping informed is “important” so they don’t “fall for tricks“. You can also see a recent video here, which most people point out is obviously a fake demonstration of an iOS 6.01 jailbreak. Watch the videos below.

i Think Apple’s Kung fu is better Jailbreaker’s kung fu

Why do people keep assuming there will automatically be a JB for their new iDevices? It’s getting harder and harder to achieve. Maybe there will be an iPhone 5 JB eventually but people need to realise if they buy a new iDevice there is a possibility it will never be JB’ed.

Jailbreaking was fun while it lasted but Apple made it clear when they tried to make it illegal that it was a priority for them to stop it. Every new iDevice and iOS is worked on by HUNDREDS of highly skilled programmers. Each new device closes hole after hole in the system.

Next time you buy an iDevice don’t do it expecting a JB. If you get one for iPhone 5 be happy. However if you want all the latest phones and operating systems then forget jailbreaking.

In the end it’s YOUR choice. A jail broken device, or the latest and greatest version of the iPhone and iOS. You cannot have both. And throwing a tantrum like a 3 year old and calling people names won’t change that.

If you don’t like that – go buy an Android phone and stop whining like little babies.

I find it hard to believe that there’s such a small group of people working on this JB, There are countless hackers out there in Internetland with there thumb stuck up their azz.
p0d2g sounds like a complete prick, if your gonna work on the JB fooking do it, if not, stop dangling the carrot and stick to being a DJ!! As for the rest of them, you can see their milking the lime light for all it’s worth. I say “WERE NOT FOOKING BOTHERED ABOUT HOW HARD THE JAILBREAK IS, THE MORE TIME YOU STAND AROUND TALKING ABOUT IT AND TICKLING EACH OTHERS BALLS THE MORE TIME YOU ARE WASTING, JUST GET ON WITH IT OR FOOK OFF” X|

He can do whatever he damn well pleases with HIS time and HIS life…

  • 6.0

Giving it 1 more month then I’m selling my 5.

  • Wasabi

You losers should stop harassing them. When it’s ready, it’s ready. Harassing won’t help a thing

    • AlarmTheLlama

There is already a tethered jailbreak for iOS 6 and 6.0.1, just download the latest Redsn0w, plug in your iPhone and click Jailbreak!

  • Rafael Breban

This reminds of nagra vision 3.

  • JailbreakJedi.

It’s blatantly obvious that the forbidden fruit apple corporation has paid them off. It’s the logical thing to do. If I was Apple I’d have them all on board making the next iOS untouchable which is the issue ATM.

    • Ryan

The thing is, we as jailbreakers are more than happy to donate money to the jailbreak which will generate a LOT of money for them to share. Which confuses me, they don’t want money, but will happily get bought out by apple.

      • brayden fleming

really bought out by apple? FFS people. these guys do it for the people. pod2g was offered over 200K a year to work for apple and turned it down.

ALL of the devs make big bucks teaching classes to goverments on security research, selling 0day exploits for other software etc. why would they want to sell out to apple?

not one of the devs has sold out to apple (and dont say comex)
even so how is working for apple selling out? these guys do this because they enjoy it.. would a guy playing local baseball for fun be called a sellout for joining the Majors? no..

all you kids on here who feel entitled to a jb need to STFU before you run off another dev (remember geohot anyone?) seriously ffs

  • Jay

    Bring on the 5s.

  • Marshall

Fair enough that these certain individuals need time out, but for those who have cracked previous gen of Apple material who are rightful owners of iphone 3gs, 4,4s etc, Surely one can only assume one would go to extreme measures to have the unlocked capability achieved to enjoy and explore the modern Iphone5… Seems as though it has been found but not yet released…

  • Walkingepidemic

I don’t mind about how long it takes, i just want an eventual jb for my ipad 2, which I mistakenly updated to 6.0.1.

      Agree with you.

    • You wouldn’t be here if you weren’t a nerd too

  • RickyT

I have a feeling a jailbreak won’t come before iOS 6.1, and then we will be even closer to iPhone 5S. It seems like a bootrom is how main hope, so fingers crossed p0sixninja finds it.

  • Tony

Very grateful for PR keeping us updated on the state of a iOS 6 jailbreak, I want it on my iPhone 5 and there are so many scams around. Like Hill said we got to keep informed about the “tricks” and it is better knowing there isn’t a jailbreak than believing some scam.

  • Susan

I didn’t watch all the video but it certainly showed me how big a task an iOS 6 jailbreak is, I just hope it doesn’t take too much longer.
