Assassin’s Creed 3 PC graphics vs console is no contest

By Alan Ng - Nov 21, 2012

The wait is finally over for PC users. After having to endure a period of frustration as console owners got to enjoy Assassin’s Creed 3 first, the game is now available to buy on the PC almost one month later. The immediate question that a lot of gamers will be asking now though, is how the PC version looks graphically, compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions.

As we’ve seen with so many other graphics comparisons, it won’t be a surprise for us to tell you that the PC version of Assassin’s Creed 3 is the best looking by faras long as you have the hardware to run the game at optimal settings. To give you an idea of the boost in visuals on offer, we have an excellent PC Vs Xbox 360 graphics video to show you courtesy of RedGamingTech – letting you see what a difference it makes to pick up the game on PC instead.

We see the same two scenes of the game played out side by side on both versions and it is pretty clear cut on the PC emerging victorious. PC owners may have been angry over the near one month wait, but they won’t mind it once they see how beautiful the game can run if you have a decent graphics card.

The game is enhanced in almost every way and although it is unrelated to the topic, it takes us back to an earlier article we wrote this week on the possibility of Rockstar not bringing out a PC version of GTA V. The visuals on offer here on the PC version are some of the best we’ve seen so it really is worth it forking out on a good graphics card if you want to get the best out of Assassin’s Creed 3 on PC.

Initially, we thought the console versions of the game looked fine, but now you see the true potential of what is capable on PC. Take a look at the footage below and let us know if you are impressed as well. We notice that the comparison references Assassin’s Creed 3 with ‘low’ PC settings – which still looks fantastic. Just to make sure, we’ve found another video for you which shows off the game with maxed out 1080p graphics for those that require it.

So how do you feel PC owners, well worth the wait right?

can ac3 play well with a GT220 graphic card?

  • Boss hog

Just installed it on my rig
    I7 2600k 4.8ghz
Asus gtx 670 direct cu top 1.3ghz
    Running 1080p
Sits solid 60fps, however remove vsync
    And boom avg about 85fps
    All settings maxed

Even the medium setting looks perfect. Game is working perfectly with Intel i3, ATI 4650.

  • Yer…right

    Great…another one of these articles.

Frankly I can’t see any major difference, I think they both look great, I’m not one to attack one version because it looks bad for the sake of defending my so called (Pride).

The game looks great on pc, no doubt, but the pc version has some serious performance issues. I’ve got a decent setup, able to run almost any other game on high settings just fine, but running this game on the lowest settings makes the framerate in and around Boston run between 9-13 fps. Major disappointment after shelling out 50 bucks.

    • Cakecicle

I get 15 fps in Boston and thats with only a GT220 and 2.5ghz dual core. 20-40 fps in other areas.

dude look on steam and it says most graphic card arn’t optimized, but it has a good list of the graphic cards optimized

    • some dude

Clearly your pc isn’t even remotely decent, because HD7850 gives 30-60 (average around 50, dips below 40 are rare, sits at 60FPS most the time) with max/medium aa/8x AF. at 1920×1200. Even a dirt cheap card like 5770/550TI (which is half as fast as my card) is going to give you playable frame rates on high.I am guessing you must be using a laptop..

Hey, what cpu do you have? and are you ocing?
Because i’ve got the same gpu but i’m seeing crappy frames when in the city areas

I just got the game for $13
