iOS 6 jailbreak to spoil release party

By Alan Ng - Sep 18, 2012

We are just hours away from the highly anticipated release of iOS 6, which will become available to download on September 19. Apple has announced availability for a collection of iOS devices, but many consumers may be holding off to see if there is any developments regarding an iOS 6 jailbreak.

Right now, you are probably sitting very comfortable on iOS 5.1.1, but the idea of using the new features within iOS 6 such as Passbook whilst still maintaining jailbreak status is going to be a tempting offer that is hard to turn down.

Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be a major breakthrough for those that are definitely planning to stay on iOS 5. There is already a iOS 6 jailbreak available for the GM build, but we hear that it is far from stable and is tethered, so you’ll still need to jailbreak every time you boot your device, which obviously isn’t very convenient.

Having said that, it is probably inevitable that iOS 6 will be cracked open sooner or later – it always seems to happen every year despite Apple’s assurances that security has been increased with every version. The infamous Geohot and his jailbreaking services do not appear to be available this time around, so the wait for a full iOS 6 jailbreak may take a little while longer.

Will you update your iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S to iOS 6 straight away to enjoy all of the new features, or are you planning to stay on iOS 5.1.1 for as long as it takes for an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak to release? You can bet that Apple are monitoring the situation closely and will try to counter any new exploit that is discovered once iOS 6 releases on Wednesday.

You may want to keep an eye on this Twitter account if you are looking for a jailbreak. If not, sit back and wait as the anticipation builds for the big software update. Let us know what you plan to do upon release.

Obviously no one knows yet; calm down. There hasn’t been an established pattern of when untethered jailbreaks have been released in the past either, so we’ll just have to patiently wait.

my ios 6 jailbreak is fine dont have to re jailbreak at all 🙂

Long time iPhone user, but have to say I’m not excited in the least with iOS6, just seems to be the same old with little improvement. It’s just reminding me of the Simpsons episode where Lisa creates her own doll, you know that little girl that says “but she has a new hat”. May just swap to a Nokia 920 if it’s as good as they say.

This is an easy answer I’ll stay on 5.1.1 until a stable jailbreak is available. I’ve been using IOS 6 since the first beta, and it’s nothing to write home about. I’m still debating if I’ll get the phone on Friday or just let my reserve go.

Agreed, and if you don’t live in the US, the new Maps sucks ass. I live in Japan, and it’s pretty sad.

  • I use the SMS google voice integration so a jailbreak is imperative for me.

  • Elmitojr

I will jailbreak as soon as there is a tethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4s and hopefully bitesms is updated by then

That’s easy- stay with 5 until there is a jailbreak for 6
