Wii U graphics may top this gen

The debate on the graphics quality of the Nintendo Wii U continues to linger on and we have just heard another developer chime in on their thoughts on Nintendo’s new hardware.

We’ve heard plenty of criticism on how the Wii U won’t even be able to match the PS3 and Xbox 360 in graphics, but some recent comments have proved that this may be untrue. Sumo Digital are currently finalizing the Wii U release of Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed, and in a recent interview they’ve said that the Wii U is at least on par with PS3 and Xbox 360, if not better than both in terms of graphics potential.

They revealed this insight to Eurogamer and it’s likely to add another piece to the deciding factor on whether prospective Wii U console owners believe that the console is good enough from a graphics standpoint. Nintendo has made a point several times to say that their new console is now ‘hardcore’ friendly with the boost in hardware specs, but many gamers remain unconvinced, especially with next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft coming out soon.

As for the game itself, it looks pretty fun, although we wish developers would stop using dubstep in their promo trailers to add some kind of brownie points to the game. Dubstep fits in some places with trailers, but Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed definitely isn’t one of them.

What are your thoughts on the continued discussion on Wii U graphics? Are you starting to get frustrated with all of the negativity surrounding Nintendo’s new console, or are you worried as well that the Wii U may not be able to cope once the PS4 and Xbox 720 is out?
