Early Assassin’s Creed 3 multiplayer gameplay

We were expecting to see another big Assassin’s Creed 3 showing at the upcoming GamesCom expo in Germany this month, but it looks like some multiplayer footage that hasn’t been seen before has released a little early.

Ubisoft has shown off plenty of their campaign mode for Assassin’s Creed 3, but until now remained silent on what the multiplayer portion for Assassin’s Creed 3 will play like. Footage showing multiplayer and a variety of new game modes has become available online, courtesy of a French video which also touts the capabilities of the AnvilNext engine.

The trailer is officially dubbed the Animus trailer and begins with a long period of dialogue that you’ll probably want to skip. The action really starts around the 1.25 mark when we hear details on the new multiplayer modes for the first time. Domination and Wolfpack are the two modes highlighted, with Domination already familiar to players since it follows the same attack and defend flag gameplay as seen in previous titles.

Wolfpack is brand new though and is a mode available for up to 4 players. This time, you team up with friends against the computer in a race against time to eliminate specific targets. Luckily for you, you’ll be able to use the rooftops to your advantage and with four players at the same time, it should make for a fairly exciting alternative to the other modes.

It looks like there is also a deep ranking system, so you’ll be unlocking goodies for your chosen class for a long time we expect. We also have a feeling that Ubisoft will take note on what EA and Activision have done with regards to BF3 and MW3 ‘premium’ DLC respectively, so don’t be surprised if a similar package is put in place for Assassin’s Creed 3 as well.

This is just a brief glimpse of multiplayer, but what do you think of it so far? Expect to see a lot more during GamesCom, which starts on August 15. Is Assassin’s Creed 3 a day one buy for you, or are you waiting to see more?
