It’s good to see DICE providing regular support to Battlefield 3 to make it a better experience online for all, and today we have an update on further changes that are coming to the game. Unsurprisingly, the PC version is set to get some minor tweaks first, but there’s also a few hints about potential features that console players can expect to see as well.
Community manager Zhinto has issued a brief update to PC players over on Battlelog, informing them that a minor update will go live today, February 14th at around 8am UT. Among the changes are support for Intel’s new Ivy Bridge processors and also a few performance tweaks to the AMD Radeon 7xxx series of graphics cards.
As for gameplay changes, there’s nothing much to get excited about, but there are two notable crash fixes on the Operation Firestorm and Noshahr Canal maps. DICE has fixed a crash when playing Operation Firestorm on Conquest when a player may experience a client crash when spawning straight into vehicles. The other change is on Canals when playing Rush and the player drives a vehicle into the exploding rocket battery near the second set of MCOMs area.
That’s all your getting – we told you it was minor. There’s no word on any improvements to their Punkbuster banning system, but we have a feeling a lot of you will appreciate those improvements to the Radeon 7xxx series so report back to us and tell us how much your game has improved once this update is out. Just so you’re aware, this update will be available via Origin.
As for potential clues on the next console update, DICE has also stated the following message to give players an indication on what they are working on next.
”We have several ongoing developments with regards to balance and gameplay, performance, stability and the overall feature set that will be announced in the coming weeks.”
The last update on console fixed the much-needed VOIP issue on the PS3 version and you can bet that PS3 players are hoping that the next update will address the input lag problem that a lot of players seem to be complaining about. From our point of view, we would like to see a tweak which allows tank users to light up an chopper or jet using the CITV station, and then successfully lock on with the guided missile in one swoop. If you try to do it yourself, you’ll see that the CITV doesn’t light up the player long enough for the guided missile to lock on, so instead tank users have to wait until a teammate takes the CITV position and has the logic to light up the aircraft – a very frustrating experience most of the time when you’re dying to take out a chopper.
We would also like to see a much smoother transition when switching between seats in the tank. For example, switching to gunner and then CITV often moves your crosshair in a completely different position to which the enemy is facing, so you then have to move the crosshair back to the right position, which loses precious time. We would like to see the crosshair for the main position, gunner position and CITV position all align in the correct way to make the experience a whole lot better for the one man tank player.
As always, we’ll inform you when the next console update is due out but in the meantime, let us know what changes you would like to see.
