The creation kit may be making PC players of Skyrim very happy right now, but for console players there’s still the little matter of the next major patch update for the game. Gamers have been waiting for patch 1.4 to land for quite some time now, but we’re pleased to say that we now have an indication from Bethesda on when the update will be available.
Patch 1.4 is already live on PC of course, as Bethesda released it prior to making the creation kit and Steam Workshop available earlier this week. There are a large number of changes coming in the update, most of which will improve stability and framerate problems on console and more importantly, should help console players to complete some quests that they were having trouble on due to bugs.
There is no set time for when the patch will go live, but according to Bethesda marketing boss Pete Hines, Xbox 360 users may receive the update before PS3 users. A recent Tweet from him suggests that the update will be available to download ‘early Thursday morning’, which we’re guessing relates to Eastern Time if we follow the same pattern that they gave for the creation kit release.
His Tweet also mentioned the fact that the PS3 update ‘is looking good too’, which may suggest that the patch could release on Thursday as well. Bethesda are currently awaiting for information from Sony though, as the patch is obviously undergoing certification process – let’s hope it appears on the PlayStation Store as well.
When we first told you about the patch 1.4 going live for PC users, we asked if you were still having problems with the game. According to the feedback received so far, it is clear that many of you are still having problems, but a lot of you can play Skyrim just fine. On an interesting note, a lot you suggest that many of the problems associated with the game are based on your hard drive space, and deleting unneeded content such as demos will help Skyrim to run a lot better.
Since there’s little you can do if you are having problems on console, it may be worth giving this a shot to see if freeing up hard drive space does improve the game or not. So to recap, patch 1.4 is due out on Xbox 360 today, and it may release on PS3 as well. Keep an eye on it in the respective stores.
