We have some good news for those of you who have picked up one of Sony’s new Xperia or tablet devices, as the company has just informed consumers that Ice Cream Sandwich updates will start rolling out in a few months time.
We recently told you that the Sony S and Sony P tablets will be getting an update to Ice Cream Sandwich soon, but now we have a list to remind you of the smartphones that will be getting an update to Google’s latest version of Android too.
Updates are set to go live in Spring, but unsurprisingly there is no indication from Sony on when this will be happening exactly. On the plus side, we can bring you a list of devices that will be getting an update, and if you have bought a new Xperia smartphone from Sony, there’s a good chance that you’ll be included on the list.
The full list is as follows, courtesy of BGR – Sony Xperia Arc, Arc S, Xperia Neo, Xperia Neo V, Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Active, Xperia Ray and also the Sony Xperia Play which doubles as a portable handheld gaming device with official PlayStation support for apps such as the soon to be released PlayStation Suite.
That is quite a healthy list we have to say, and it is pleasing that Sony has taken the decision to inform consumers straight away which handsets will be getting an update – how many other manufacturers can you say the same thing about? Certainly not for the likes of HTC and Motorola as consumers are still biting their nails to see if their devices will be getting the update or not.
Do you own one of the Xperia smartphones mentioned above? We recently had a play on the Sony Tablet S and we’re a bit surprised that the tablet doesn’t appear to be selling well. It looks like a great little device, and we had great fun playing Crash Bandicoot using the built-in Sony PS1 emulator.
