As we prepare for The 2011 Detroit Auto Show, one vehicle that will not be there is the 2012 Porsche 911 / 991. However, we can tell you that this upcoming sports car will make its debut at the Frankfurt motor show, but you will have to wait all the way until September. So we thought we would offer you a few spec details just to keep you going for the next 9 to 10 months.
World Car Fans who has a host of images of the new German car has learned from Autobild that some of the details have now changed — so what are these changes? We can now report that the new 2012 model will be 56mm longer than the current model, with a 10mm longer wheelbase — in my experience this will make it a harder car to handle round tight bends.
There are a number of revisions to the engines used in the new 911 range, all will have better fuel economy while offering greater performance at the same time. You have to love how Porsche are managing to maintain this fine balancing act. Achieving this will be done by reducing the engine size from 3.6 liters on the standard model to just 3.4 liters, as well as shaving weight of the car itself.
According to the Car and Driver Blog the 2012 Porsche 911 could be built at Volkswagen’s Osnabrück plant, we cannot say for certain if this will affect the car in any way — but we cannot see how. The one question remaining is the fact that we do not know how much the entry price will be?
