2012 MacBook Pro to bolster premium trend

While we countdown the days to an Apple announcement for a new MacBook Pro and Air, which should help Apple’s laptop popularity continue in 2012, we are hearing from a number of analysts doing what they do best. Every market analyst has an opinion and after crunching a few numbers they’ll be happy to tell you what will happen following WWDC 2012, so let’s look at another prediction but this time from Barclays analyst Ben Reitze.

During a research note Reitze explains that the new MacBook Pro for 2012, he also references Air models, will help Apple “ramp up” demand for Macs by around 1m units incrementally. He points out that the premium trend that Apple is taking advantage of is hurting PC sales, which are also being threaten by smartphone and tablet popularity that Apple gladly enjoys success in with the iPhone and iPad.

Reitze points out that “consumers are willing” to pay for the premium seen in past MacBook Pro’s and expected in the 2012 model, and they like the performance and design benefits associated with paying a little more. This reminds us of that age old saying, “you get what you pay for“, although we’ve heard from a few of our readers on product-reviews.net that explain this is not always the case.

One existing MacBook Pro owner said this about their Apple laptop “Nothing but expensive, crashing, overheating and unreliable pieces of junk“, and others joined them in our earlier article that looked at fears of new MacBook Pro quality considering the extra demand.

Are you happy to pay a premium price for Apple products like the MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad? Take a look at Ben Reitze comments in detail here, and let us know what you think in the comments.

I plan on purchasing one of the new MBPs once they announce and release.  The craftsmanship and quality that Apple *requires* of their devices is wonderful and I am happy to pay a premium for a device that I’ll likely still be using 5 years from now.
