Galaxy S II and Note to get Android 4.0 early 2012, Galaxy S to miss out?

Currently there are many Android handsets that are waiting to receive the latest update to the latest Android operating system. Recently we told you that the update had started to rollout to owners of the Nexus S, and now it has been made official that the Samsung Galaxy S II and Note are to get Android 4.0 early 2012, but the Galaxy S could miss out.

The company has announced that both the handsets will be receiving Ice Cream Sandwich, and according to Electronista could be as soon as the first quarter of 2012. Samsung said in a statement that the update will begin in the first quarter of next year and added “other Galaxy devices will soon follow”.

What will be a huge disappointment to many though was the absence of the original Galaxy S that is thought to be unable to be upgraded. Other Samsung handsets that are set to get the update include the Galaxy R and Galaxy S II LTE. The manufacturers tablet range that includes the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus will also be getting the update.

Samsung has said when these updates become available it will make a new statement with details for each. Recently there was a leak showing a Galaxy S II running Android 4.0, which was a different version to what is found on the Galaxy Nexus as it had Samsung’s TouchWiz overlay.

In the past Samsung were found to be one of the worse handset manufacturers for updating to the latest operating system. Some devices never received the updates at all or were late. Do you own the original Galaxy S and disappointed if it doesn’t get Android 4.0?
