Besides the iPhone 5 and the elusive Motorola Droid Bionic, one handset which also has many US consumers rubbing their hands in anticipation is the Samsung Galaxy S II. Since the handset was released in other markets it has won rave reviews and sold like hot cakes. Now we have news that the Samsung Galaxy S II US release is incoming as a press event has been announced for later this month.
The company has sent out invites to a special event in New York City for August 29th, and according to Electronista there is a label with “II”. This is a strong indication the event will be all about the US release for the Galaxy S II handset, and Samsung have said more details will be coming soon.
It is thought we will see a similar situation the original Galaxy handset with a staggered release across all the major carriers in the country. There were rumors last month that Verizon would be the first carrier to get their version of the device, and then each carrier will have their own customized version of the handset.
The Verizon version is thought to be called the Stratosphere, and is set to be the most advanced version with 4G LTE compatibility. While T-Mobile’s version is thought to be called the Hercules and have HSPA+ with a larger 4.5-inch display. Sprint’s version of the device will have WiMax and called the Epic 4G Touch, and AT&T is rumored to be getting a slide out QWERTY keyboard.
All the versions of the device should have the same 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor, which is the reason why the handset is one of the fastest units out there. Samsung will be hoping the release of the handset will beat Apple’s launch of the iPhone 5, which as we reported earlier could be happening on September 7.
They will also be hoping to get the handset on the market before Apple scores any more victories in the ongoing legal dispute between the two companies. Will you be getting the Samsung Galaxy S II when it is released?
