We have some good news for those of you who are looking forward to the release of Warhawk follow-up Starhawk. The game is not due out on the PlayStation 3 until 2012, but we have some welcome news with regards to gaining entry to the multiplayer beta for the game.
For those that missed the official announcement of the game back in May of this year, Starhawk will remain a PS3 exclusive just like Warhawk, as development will be handled this time by LightBox Interactive, part of the Santa Monia branch owned by Sony.
Starhawk will essentially feature the same core gameplay elements that made Warhawk such a success online, with the one notable difference being that players will now be participating in battle amongst the skies. There will be support for 32 players online, while there will also be 2-4 player support for split screen multiplayer as well.
Another huge change for Starhawk, is that there will be a single-player story mode featured in the game as well, as Warhawk players will know too well that a campaign mode was removed from the game during development in favor of keeping the game online-based only.
As for news on the beta, Harvard Bonin, the senior producer for Starhawk has given gamers an update on the official US PlayStation Blog. According to him, the team are currently working on plans to introduce a public beta for the game, and that Warhawk players will be given priority before everyone else, check out his comments below:
“It’s forefront in our mind to make this a very fair game. A public beta will be part of that. Our beta plans are being worked out right now, but we will have one for sure. Our hope is to take care of Warhawk players first.”
So if you happen to still be an active Warhawk player or have racked up a good few hours online on the game, there’s a very good chance that you’ll be getting a free key into the beta for Starhawk. No set date for when the beta will begin, but we’ll keep you updated of course.
Are you looking forward to Starhawk or not?
